As Mr. Asai himself says, "As a novelist and as a person, this is clearly a work that will be a major turning point," so whether it is a masterpiece that resonates with you or a problematic work that makes you want to turn your eyes away. "I don't know this shock until I read it" and "I can't go back to the person I was before I read it," and the number of readers continues to increase one after another.

AsAi himself said, "This work is a huge turning point for me, both as a novelist and as a person," is this a masterpiece that inspires resonance, or is it a problem work that people can't bear to look at? There are constantly feedback from readers: "The impact of this work will not be understood if you don't really read it" and "You can't go back to your pre-book self."

Turning the shocking story into a kind of love story that exposes the theme of what is the driving force for life into a movie is director Yoshiyuki Kishi, whose expectations are even higher after the events of "Oh, the Wilderness" (2017) and "Ex-Convict" (2022), and screenwriter Takehiko Minato, who is expanding the possibilities of directing while boldly reconstructing the original work.

A highly impactful story created to explore the driving force of life is then made into a film in the form of some kind of love story. The director who directed this work is Yoshiyuki Kishi, who has made people look forward to his works more after directing films such as "Ah, Wilderness" (2017) and "Ex-Offender" (2022), and the screenwriter Yukihiko Minato, who has made drastic adaptations of the original work and continuously expanded the possibilities of directing the director's performance.

When life and death are right in front of you, you want to find as many things as possible that can trigger you to choose to live – the highlight is how you sublimate the thoughts you put into the film.

When life and death are in front of us at the same time, we are eager to find even a little more reason why we choose to live - how the film will sublimate this central idea, which is also the biggest attraction of the film.

Niigaki Yui Comments:

Reading the original, I felt like I had been asked something. It wasn't as simple as "what's right" or anything like that, but it was actually very simple. I would like to keep thinking and imagining more than usual when approaching the production. This is the first time I have worked with Director Kishi, and I am very encouraged and grateful that he kindly consulted me about the role from the first meeting.

After reading the original work, I had a feeling of being asked what was going on. It's not just a question of "what's right," but it feels actually pretty simple. During the shoot, I will think and imagine more than ever. Although this is the first time to work with Kishi director, the director discussed the role with me very kindly when we first met, which made me feel very at ease, and I am very grateful to him.

Director Yoshiyuki Kishi commented:

The shock and emotion of the original work will never go away. The characters created by Mr. Asai's "point of view" and how to express their emotions are still being explored. Through repeated dialogues with the cast members, including Goro Inagaki and Yui Niigaki Niigaki, the outline has gradually emerged. I want to depict the connection between people. It's important, but it's hard, it's a connection. I would like to depict the undistorted connections of people who are dismissed as "out of the ordinary" by the world.

The impact and emotion brought to me by the original work cannot be dissipated for a long time. How exactly do the emotions of each character extending from Asai's "perspective" be expressed? I've been exploring. In the process of constantly communicating with actors such as Inagaki Goro and Yui Niigaki, I gradually got some rough outlines of these roles. I want to portray relationships between people. Cherished and difficult to maintain relationships. There is no distortion of the relationship between people who are "abnormal" in the eyes of ordinary people.

The author Comments by Chaojing Liao:

To put it into words is to draw a line. It is words that forcibly outline emotions and phenomena that cannot be clearly named.

Language is all about drawing boundaries. Language is the imposition of contours on indescribable feelings or phenomena.

In the film, there are many things other than words, such as facial expressions, tone of voice, silence, etc. I hope they will pick up as many of the things that I left out while writing.

And the movie, in addition to the language, there are expressions, intonation, silence and many other things. Hopefully, as much as possible, I can fill the gaps in the content I've created.

And I hope that the core of this story will not be distorted in any way other than the intention to make a good film.

Then I hope that on the basis of shooting a good movie, we will not distort what the core of this story wants to express.
