According to French media sources, French and Swiss director Jean-Luc Godard died on September 13, local time, at the age of 91.
Jean-Luc Godard was born on 3 December 1930 in Paris, France. In 1960, at the age of 30, Jean-Luc Godard directed his first film, Exhausted. With this film, he became famous and won the Silver Bear Award for Best Director at the 10th Berlin International Film Festival.
As one of the founders of French New Wave cinema, Jean-Luc Godard created more than 100 films in his lifetime, many of which won honors: in 1962, "Do As You Please" won the Special Jury Prize at the 27th Venice International Film Festival; In 1965, "Piero the Madman" won the Golden Lion Award in the main competition unit of the 30th Venice International Film Festival; In 1983, "Carmen" won the Golden Lion Award at the 40th Venice International Film Festival; In 2014, "Goodbye Language" won the Jury Prize at the 67th Cannes Film Festival.
In 2020, his assistant revealed that Jean-Luc Godard was still working on the film.
With the death of Jean-Luc Godard, the French New Wave "Five Tigers"—François Truffaut (1932-1984), Claude Chabrol (1930-2010), Eric Houmai (1920-2010), Jacques Rivitt (1928-2016) and Jean-Luc Godard (1930-2022) have all passed away.
