According to the Hong Kong Wenhui Network, "East Net" and other media reports, at about 1:10 p.m. on the 9th, the Hong Kong police successfully detonated a World War II-era British mine in the waters opposite Hezui. There was a loud noise at the scene, and the explosive force of the water mine rushed to the surface of the sea, forming a white wave.

The Hong Kong SAR Government issued a press release on the 8th, saying that the police received a report from a member of the public on August 9 that a suspected bomb was found during diving activities in the waters east of Tsuru Tsui. Police then launched an investigation and on August 19 determined that the suspected bomb was located at a depth of 15 metres, about 1.4 kilometres northeast of Tsuru Tsui.

Hong Kong Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal Division personnel then went to the scene for inspection and determined that the bomb was a British-style mine left over from the World War II period, in the shape of a round ball, about 1 meter high, about 1.5 meters long, and estimated to weigh about 1 ton. Although the mine was not in real time danger, the 500-pound high-performance explosive contained in it was estimated to still have explosive power, and the explosive ordnance disposal department personnel decided to dispose of the mine underwater to remove the threat.

During the period from 12 noon on the 8th to the end of the operation on the 9th, the Maritime Department of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region blocked the water area within a 1 km radius of the mine's location, and during the blockade, ships were not allowed to sail into the blockade area. In addition, the police blocked a nearby mountain trail from 12:00 noon on the 8th to prohibit tourists from approaching to ensure safety. The airspace around Tsuru Tsui will also be listed as a temporary restricted flight area from 9:00 to 15:00 on the 9th. (Overseas Network Yang Jia)
