All along, female entrepreneurs have been labeled as various types of bosses, strong women, XX queens...

This seems like a bias because when we report on startup stories, we don't usually use a description like "male founder." But for female entrepreneurs, there is always an intentional or unintentional emphasis on their female identity.

But this is enough to reflect that we have begun to pay attention to the power of women emerging in the wave of entrepreneurship, not only to see their efforts and hear their voices, but also to recognize their excellence and solve the problems they encounter in a variety of ways.

Find them different

As an observer and recorder of the industry, Yiou has always paid attention to women's leadership, creativity and influence.

In March this year, on the occasion of the 112th International Women's Day, Yiou launched the "Her Special Topic" series. From the three dimensions of [Her Voice] - Interview with Female Founders, [Her Strength] - Women's Workplace Status, and [Her Economy] - Women's Consumption Trends, the special topic shows and explores the power of female groups in all fields of society that cannot be ignored.

Corresponding to the same voice, the same qi. The topic of female entrepreneurs has attracted the attention of many women in the workplace, more women have bravely spoken out for themselves, and they have also found resonance and encouragement from each other's business stories.

In June this year, Yiou officially launched the "Neon - 2022 Young Female Founders of China" award selection, hoping to discover more female entrepreneurial leaders. After more than 2 months of solicitation, Yiou received nearly 100 nominations or recommendations. According to the candidates' own professionalism, popularity, leadership, influence and other indicators such as their company's business innovation, brand volume, track prospects and enterprise valuation, 20 young female entrepreneurial leaders with innovative spirit were finally selected.

The 20 female founders who won the award were all under the age of 45; Nearly half of the degrees reach master's degree, and a quarter reach the doctoral or doctoral study; About a third are multiple or serial ventures. The earliest businesses they founded were founded in 2002, and the most recent was founded in January 2022; Have completed at least 1 round of financing, and have accumulated at most 16 rounds of financing; The highest valuation of enterprises reached nearly 20 billion yuan.

Female entrepreneurs often face more challenges. The real faces outside the aura may not be so glamorous, but this is the unique charm of each of them.

This is also why the list is named after "Neon".

The harmonic sound of neon and "you" originally refers to an atmospheric phenomenon similar to a rainbow, and is also used to describe things as colorful, dazzling, extraordinary, and every entrepreneurial "you" is brilliant like neon.

The times call for female power

Peter Drucker once said that the change of times fits precisely with the feminine character.

In recent years, not only more female entrepreneurial leaders have emerged from all walks of life, but also female executives have continuously entered the management of large enterprises and become the core force in the company's organizational structure.

According to the "2021 Special Report on Women Directors of Listed Companies in China" released by the China Institute of Corporate Governance of Nankai University, in the ten years from 2012 to 2021, the number of companies with female directors has increased from 1079 to 3150, accounting for an increase from 46.35% to 76.20%; The number of companies with female chairmen increased from 76 to 241, accounting for 5.83% from 3.26%; The number of female directors on the board of directors increased from an average of 0.63 to 1.39, and the proportion increased from 6.06% to 16.57%.

Not only are the number or proportion of female leaders on the rise, but their roles and functions in corporate governance are becoming increasingly important.

The fact that female leaders come to the fore seems to be a trend in some industries is actually a silhouette of an era.

Today, under the influence of factors such as economic cycles, international relations and repeated epidemics, China's economy is also in a stage of increasing downward pressure. The qualities of affinity, empathy, helpfulness and dedication that we just mentioned make women more likely in the business society and more able to cope with the risks brought about by the economic downturn.

The deeper reason behind this is that the organizational management system has undergone fundamental changes with the change of times.

As Chen Chunhua said at the "Women's Leadership in the Digital Age" forum: "The traditional pyramid organization requires people to be able to adapt to a variety of positions, and it is actually generalists who are cultivated; The networked organizational structure of the digital age requires everyone to become an expert and everyone to work together, so internal relations will become a division of labor and a collaborative model. This prompts us to re-examine the current situation and significance of women's leadership. ”

May you and I go hand in hand, live up to this era of change, and create real value for customers.
