The man who was attacked by the bees, Austin Bellamy, is 20 years old.

It happened on saturday morning (August 27) when Bellamy climbed onto a lemon tree to prune branches and his grandparents, Phyllis Edwards and Dustin Edwards, were watching him work under the tree.

While building a tree branch, Bellamy inadvertently cut down an African killer bee hive, and he was instantly attacked by thousands of killer bees.

"But when he started building the branches, bees flew out. He tried to pin himself to a tree, but couldn't. "He was yelling, 'Help! Help me! Help me! But no one could help him. ”

Although Phyllis and Dustin were under the tree at the time, they were also attacked by bees and could not climb the ladder to rescue Bellamy.

"I tried to climb up the ladder to save Bellamy... I saw how high he was in... But I couldn't get close to him because I was surrounded by bees too. Phyllis said.

Bellamy's mother, Shawna Carter, said she fainted when she received the call. "It's too hard for me to accept," Carter said, "and it's as if he had a black blanket over his head that went all the way to his neck and to his arms." ”

Carter thanked a firefighter named Craig for rescuing Bellamy. "Craig is our savior, he is the angel of Austin (Bellamy), he saved Bellamy's life."

After being rescued, Bellamy was quickly put in a rescue helicopter and then rushed to a hospital in Corryville.

Bellamy was unable to breathe when he was taken to the hospital and had to put on an artificial ventilator, and doctors induced him into a coma through medication.

Mr. Carter said Bellamy had been stung at least 20,000 times and that he had swallowed about 30 African killer bees during the attack. "So he had bees in his body, and until Sunday morning (August 28), the doctors were sucking the bees out of him."

The Bellamys also raised money for Bellamy's treatment on gofundMe, a fundraising platform that set a $10,000 fundraising goal, which has now raised $20,588.

On August 31, Bellamy's mother, Carter, updated her message on the GoFundMe website, saying that Bellamy had awoken from her coma and that "a lot of the swelling was gone," but that his condition was not stable, he still had breathing problems, and that he "couldn't walk very well."

Fox News reported that doctors were optimistic about Bellamy's condition, saying he would make a full recovery.
