Since September 1, Myanmar has re-implemented a visa-free policy for eight ASEAN countries, including the Philippines, Cambodia, Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, Brunei, Vietnam and Laos. Under the terms of the bilateral visa-free agreement, diplomats from these countries, holders of special and ordinary passports will be granted visa-free treatment upon entry into Myanmar, although Malaysia and Timor-Leste are excluded from the list of visa-free countries.

According to statistics, between May and July 2022, a total of 1,622 foreign tourists from 54 countries entered Myanmar, most of whom were Chinese tourists. Myanmar's Yangon, Bagan and Inle regions have always been the preferred destinations for many foreign tourists, and some travel agencies have analyzed that they are expected to stimulate the recovery and development of tourism through the re-implementation of the visa-free policy of ASEAN neighbors.
