Wu Tewu, director of the Department of Fisheries Management, said that when the trial and breeding began, the number of shrimp fry was only 100,000 to 200,000, and then the number of shrimp fry increased to about 2 million. After subtracting the dead and injured shrimp fry, we have about 1 million left, and we will export 300,000 of them abroad.
Wu TeWu went on to say that in the coming year, we expect to breed at least 2 million shrimp fry. We have issued instructions to increase the culture of freshwater shrimp during the moratorium on marine shrimp farming and to improve the market competitiveness of local shrimp fry.
A senior businessman Wu Qinmaoji said that all along, the livestock breeding industry in Rakhine State has been relatively sluggish, after 2020, some young people began to be interested in the aquaculture industry, but there are still relatively few employees, most people are not optimistic about this industry. Fish, shrimp and crabs all bring income to the locals, and I am very happy to be able to farm freshwater shrimp like I do now.
It is reported that shrimp fry farmed in Rakhine State can only survive in the junction area of freshwater and marine water, and those who want to buy shrimp fry can contact the Fisheries Management Department. In addition, the main areas in Rakhine State for the cultivation of marine shrimp are located in the Sedia Base in Kyaukphyu Township, the Someki Base in Baoduo Township and the Yeqiangbin Base in Sittwe Township.
According to data from the Rakhine Fisheries Administration, the area of fish and shrimp culture in Kyaukdao, Budidang and Mengdu areas reached 420.91 acres, the area of crab farming in Bang Na Zun, Dong Pigeon and Guya regions was 167.5 acres, and the area of shrimp culture in Siti, Muhang Andu and Mengdu counties was 8372.78 acres.
