However, due to the amazing reproductive ability of duckweed, its effect on water quality is like a double-edged sword: if there is too much duckweed, covering the entire water surface, aquatic grass will die because it cannot shine on the sun, and fish will die of lack of oxygen. Those dead fish and aquatic weeds will release harmful substances such as ammonia when they decay, resulting in poor water quality.
