The island of Seychelles in the southwestern Indian Ocean is home to a legendary palm tree called Lodoicea maldivica, also known as the sea coconut or "Hulk", also known as the "Seychelles coconut". It is an endemic plant on the islands of Seychelles and a national treasure of Seychelles.
Sea coconut is also the largest seed in the world, with a single seed weighing up to 42 kilograms and growing about half a meter long.
The shape of the sea coconut is extremely inspiring and is considered the "most blushing" plant. The sea coconut is an hermaphrodite, the inflorescence of the male tree resembles a huge "male root", and the seed of the female tree resembles a plump "female buttock". Some people living on the island believe superstitiously that its seeds can aphrodisiac. Because of its mysterious nature, it is attractive to scientists, tourists and poachers.
At first many people thought that the seed came from a mysterious giant tree that grew on the bottom of the sea. It was not until 1743 that French explorers discovered a living plant of sea coconut in the Seychelles and learned that it was actually a terrestrial plant.
