Many global organizations publish research in various fields every year. Tajikistan enters the rankings every year, sometimes going up and sometimes down. Asia Express ranks Tajikistan among the 10 most famous ratings in the world.

Degrees of economic freedom

In mid-February, the Heritage Foundation, a U.S. think tank, and the Wall Street Journal released the 2022 Index of Economic Freedom, and Tajikistan ranked 147th out of 177 countries.

The study authors divided countries into 5 categories based on the degree of economic freedom. Tajikistan and Turkmenistan (165th) and 30 other countries (North Korea, Venezuela, Zimbabwe, Cuba, etc.) are in the lowest category.

The ranking authors noted that Tajikistan's economic freedom has declined for five consecutive years, with particular emphasis on the country's "extremely weak investment freedom and financial freedom."

Freedom of the press

According to the annual press freedom rankings published on May 3 by the international NGO Journalists Without Borders, Tajikistan rose 10 places in 2022 to withdraw from the list of "countries of grave concern". This year, Tajikistan ranked 152nd out of 180 countries (last year it was 162nd).

In mid-March, the United Nations released the World Happiness Report 2022, and Tajikistan ranked 83rd out of 146 countries. Ranked 78th a year ago.

In the report, Tajikistan ranks lowest among Central Asian countries with a score of 5.377 (on a 10-point scale)

The report ranks Kazakhstan as the happiest country in Central Asia (ranked 40th). Uzbekistan ranked 53rd, Kyrgyzstan 64th and Turkmenistan ranked 78th.

Military strength

In the 2022 military ranking published by the military website Global Firepower, Tajikistan ranks 111th out of 138 countries. Down 12 places compared to 2021.

Compared to other countries in the region, Tajikistan is militarily weak – Uzbekistan ranks 55th, Kazakhstan ranks 64th, Turkmenistan ranks 83rd and Kyrgyzstan ranks 90th.

Swiss air quality technology company IQAir ranks Tajikistan as one of the countries with air pollution and dangers in its report. In the rankings, Tajikistan ranks behind Bangladesh, Chad and Pakistan, and the fourth most polluted in the world.

In the ranking of capitals with the most air pollution, New Delhi (India) ranks first, followed by Dhaka (Bangladesh) and N'Djamena (Chad).

Internet speed

In the latest Global Internet Speed Test Index, Tajikistan's ranking has gone up and down.

In the rankings published in June 2022, the country ranked 132nd out of 139 countries for mobile internet speeds. The report shows that the download speed is 31.01Mb/s and the upload speed is 8.66Mb/s. Compared to the end of last year, the ranking has risen by 3 places.

In terms of cable network speeds, Tajikistan dropped 1 place compared to the previous rankings, ranking 122nd out of 182 countries with download speeds of 66.25Mb/s and upload speeds of 28.56Mb/s.

In the 2021 Democracy Index released by the Economist Intelligence Unit, Tajikistan ranked 157th out of 167 countries and regions. Compared to 2020, the ranking has risen by 2 places.

Among the remaining Central Asian countries, Kyrgyzstan ranks 115th, Kazakhstan 129th, Uzbekistan 150th and Turkmenistan 161st.

Social capital and security

According to the 2021 Global Prosperity Index list published by the Uk's Legathan Research Institute, Tajikistan ranks 110th. Compared with the previous year, the ranking has risen by 2 places.

The rating authors note that since 2011, Tajikistan has risen 5 places in the ratings table.

"Tajikistan performs best in terms of social capital and security, but weaker in terms of individual freedom," the report states. The biggest improvement compared to 10 years ago is in terms of business conditions. ”

Freedom of religion

In June 2022, the U.S. Department of State, in its annual report on global religious freedom, listed Tajikistan as one of the so-called "countries of special concern," as in previous years.

Also included in this category are Myanmar, Eritrea, Iran, North Korea, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Turkmenistan and Russia.

The countries listed are of particular concern to the U.S. Department of State for so-called "systematic, persistent, and flagrant violations of religious freedom," the report said.

On the recommendation of the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom, Tajikistan has been blacklisted by the U.S. State Department since 2016.

Tajikistan disagreed with the report's criticism of its religious freedom situation, and authorities have repeatedly said there is no reason to include Tajikistan on the list.

FIFA rankings

The Tajikistan national football team has improved its position in FIFA's latest rankings, rising from 114th to 108th.

Iran remains at the top of the Asian rankings, followed by Japan, South Korea, Australia and Qatar.

Among its neighbors, Uzbekistan rose to 77th, Kyrgyzstan remained in 95th, and Turkmenistan fell to 135th.

Tajikistan improved its rankings with a first-place finish in the group stage of the Asian Cup qualifiers.

In the world rankings, the top five are Brazil, Belgium, Argentina, France and England.
