Wu Mingzhu's first lesson was to assemble the hoe, and her assistant teacher said that the people who cultivate the land, the hoe is broken, they will not pretend to plant the land.
Wu Mingzhu did not have the appearance of Miss Jiao at all, and the teacher let the hoe be installed, and if it could not be worn, it had to be installed. Although the process is very difficult, but fortunately, in the end, Wu Mingzhu can be regarded as a hoe.
After installing the hoe, the teacher assigned a second task: each person dug out a piece of land, which was 20m, 1.5m and 15cm in length, width and height respectively.

Xinjiang dream
Wu Mingzhu, who was about to graduate in 1951, saw a letter sent back from Xinjiang by her senior sister on the school's information column, which enthusiastically introduced the beauty of Xinjiang and hoped that everyone could come to Xinjiang to participate in the construction.
Wu Mingzhu's blood was boiling, because they were about to graduate the next year, and she planned to fill in her volunteer form in Xinjiang.
However, not only Wu Mingzhu saw the letter, but also her classmates. So there is a situation where when filling in the graduation volunteer, the first wish of all people is to obey the state distribution; The second volunteer was that everyone filled in Xinjiang.
At the time of graduation, the students were assigned to remote areas such as Yun, Gui, and Sichuan, while Wu Mingzhu was assigned to stay in the school as a teacher. Wu Mingzhu began lobbying his teacher in order to be able to go to Xinjiang, and later even the mentor was persuaded by Wu Mingzhu.
Wu Mingzhu thought that she could go to Xinjiang now, but in the end the Southwest Agricultural Bureau stopped working, saying that she would be transferred to work.
Wu Mingzhu wanted to fight for it again, but the people in the Agricultural Bureau said that your first wish was to obey the distribution of the state, so Wu Mingzhu had to obediently stay.
Although she did not go to Xinjiang, Wu Mingzhu was still full of passion in her heart, and Wu Mingzhu hoped that one day she would still have the opportunity to go to Xinjiang to support construction.
Because Wu Mingzhu worked hard in the Agriculture and Forestry Bureau, it did not take long for her to be pushed to Beijing as an important training object.
Her time in Beijing is something Wu Mingzhu will never forget, as it laid her political foundation and joined the party.
Although these have allowed Wu Mingzhu to grow up very quickly, this is really not in line with her profession, and she is still looking for opportunities to go to Xinjiang.
Finally, three years after graduating, Wu Mingzhu found the perfect opportunity, when Xinjiang had just established an autonomous region and asked the central government for cadres.

More lice are not itchy, more debts are not worried
Since they came to Xinjiang from the countryside, Wu Mingzhu and these college students naturally could not be special, they all lived in the homes of local farmers. The locals also take good care of them, and the first meal they invite them to eat is lamb.
However, this is not good news for Wu Mingzhu, because she has not eaten much meat since she was a child, and she can't stand the smell of mutton.
The first time she ate Wu Mingzhu, she went out to vomit, and then she ate it after she came back, she didn't want her fellow countrymen to think that this college student was a pretentious person.
Over time, Wu Mingzhu felt that xinjiang's mutton was the most delicious. However, lamb is not a meal, usually they are all sacs, at most brew a cup of tea, this is a meal.
At that time, there were lice on the bed of the hometown, and the hotter the lice, the more lice there were. Because Wu Mingzhu is a college student from outside, the villagers take extra care of these students and let them sleep in the hottest place in the bed.
Every day, Wu Mingzhu was extremely itchy, and her clothes were full of lice. However, after a long time, it is in response to the old saying:
"More lice are not itchy, more debts are not worried."
After overcoming eating and living, the next thing to overcome is the weather in Xinjiang. We all know that Xinjiang is very hot, how hot is it? The Turpan Basin has a temperature of more than 40 degrees Celsius throughout the year and can reach 51 degrees during the day.
The extent to which candles can bend: Academician Wu Mingzhu said that they were out during the day to collect information about the cultivation of melons and fruits, and at night they lit candles to write information. But every time the candle was lit, the candle was bent over hot.
In order to make the candle no longer "bend", Wu Mingzhu invented a method of lighting candles: that is, filling the basin with water, and then reversing a bowl in the water, lighting a candle on the bowl, although the steps are troublesome but the good is to solve the lighting problem.
Another time Wu Mingzhu heard that there is a melon in other counties, and it is the best melon in Xinjiang called Red Heart Crisp.
In order to get the seeds, she and her colleagues had to start from their county of Shanshan, cross the Flame Mountains and then cross the Gobi Desert to reach their hometown.
The Flame Mountain is not a vain name, walking on the Gobi during the day, the temperature can reach 80 degrees. It was under such conditions that the two of them were still not crushed by this heat wave, but excitedly hugged the melon and walked back.
Halfway through the walk, the two reacted, they only need seeds, melons can be eaten completely, so that both weight loss and thirst can be quenched.
When Wu Mingzhu was in Xinjiang, in addition to collecting information, he also had to help the peasants. Because they are technicians in the hearts of farmers, they must know everything and be able to do anything.
So the peasants do whatever they want, harvest cotton, pick all kinds of farm work for several years, Wu Mingzhu has been handy.
Of course, Wu Mingzhu's efforts have also won the respect of local farmers. Once Wu Mingzhu went to a meeting in the county, he did not have time to tell the leader.
When Wu Mingzhu walked back the next day, she found that all the people shouted happily when they saw her.
The Uighur lads told Wu Mingzhu that they thought she had been eaten by wolves and looked for her for a night. Now that Wu Mingzhu has returned, everyone is of course dancing happily.
It is this simple feeling that makes Wu Mingzhu take root in Xinjiang without hesitation, she not only brings the sweet melons and fruits of Xinjiang to the whole country, but also cultivates more melon seedlings.

Later, Wu Mingzhu also cultivated Early Jia in Xinjiang, which may be said to be a name that everyone does not understand. Another name of The Morning Glory is 8424, which is now everyone's favorite melon king variety. In 1984, the 24th group of the most outstanding melon seeds was named 8424.
Later, Shanghai asked Wu Mingzhu for melon seeds, and Wu Mingzhu said happily: "A variety of points, give farmers more promotion, so that everyone can plant good melons and eat delicious melons." ”
In 1995, Wu Mingzhu was selected as an academician for his outstanding contributions to the cultivation and cultivation of melons over the years.
But Wu Mingzhu did not stop because of this, she still traveled between Xinjiang and Hainan, and Wu Mingzhu still lived such a life when she was in her 70s.

Academician Wu Mingzhu said that the most sorry person in this life is her husband, Wu Mingzhu's husband is called Yang Qiyou and she is a student of southwest agricultural college, and Academician Yuan Longping is a classmate.
After graduation, Yang Qiyou was admitted to the Department of Agriculture of Peking University to study wheat, and later Wu Mingzhu was also transferred to the central government, and the two confirmed the relationship.

Later, Wu Mingzhu became pregnant and had a big belly, and she was still busy in the field until the birth of the child. After the birth of the child, Wu Mingzhu's mother rushed to Xinjiang to serve her confinement and take care of the newborn.
But the mother knows her daughter very well, knows that her career is heavy, and her mind is not on the child at all.
Looking at the hot climate in Xinjiang, Wu Mingzhu knew that it was unbearable for her children, so she asked her mother to bring her children back to Nanjing.
Yang Qiyou still accompanied Wu Mingzhu to stay in Xinjiang, as the saying goes, there is an obscure woman behind successful men, and vice versa.
Yang Qiyou is the unknown husband behind Wu Mingzhu, who followed her from Beijing to Xinjiang. Later, Wu Mingzhu asked Yang Qiyou, do you regret that I did not develop your profession?

After 26 years, Yang Qiyou was transferred back to Nanjing because he was extremely weak.
Usually, when Academician Wu Mingzhu returns home, Yang Qiyou will make a meal and wait for her, but if his wife goes down to the field to study, Yang Qiyou always uses soy sauce to soak beans to make a living.
Over time, Yang Qiyou suffered from extremely serious stomach diseases, and people were also very emaciated. Therefore, he could only be transferred back to Nanjing to work later.
Three returns home
In 1986, Yang Qiyou fainted while traveling on business and was diagnosed with stomach cancer. Wu Mingzhu rushed back to Nanjing from Xinjiang, and she took care of her husband for half a year at the bedside.
But even so, Yang Qiyou still left, at the age of 57. After the funeral, Wu Mingzhu rushed back to Xinjiang again without stopping. This is her third homecoming since coming to Xinjiang.
The first time I went home was to take care of Wu Mingzhu organizationally and let her go back to see the children. When Wu Mingzhu returned to Nanjing, it was evening, and in order not to disturb her parents' rest, she sat in front of her house until dawn.
The next day when Wu Mingzhu returned home, her mother recognized her daughter at a glance, but her father looked at the person in front of her confusedly.
At this time, Wu Mingzhu had changed greatly, and the original white and round little girl had become black and thin and full of wrinkles.
Wu Mingzhu quipped that because the wind and sand in Xinjiang are relatively large, as soon as there is wind, he frowns and closes his eyes, so over time there will be wrinkles. It is no wonder that the father does not recognize his daughter at all.
The second time I went home was because Wu Mingzhu gave birth to a young daughter, and this time, like the last time, Wu Mingzhu returned to Xinjiang again after taking the confinement. Therefore, the two children and Wu Mingzhu are not close at all, but are closer to their uncles and aunts.
The children all called uncles and aunts mom and dad, but Wu Mingzhu was an aunt. Once she saw two children, the children said, "You go, melon is your child." ”
The child can't understand her, and Wu Mingzhu can accept it, because she has completely given her heart to the cause of planting melons. But fortunately, after growing up, the two children can understand Wu Mingzhu, and they also started their lives with excellent results.
