Finland and Sweden originally pursued a military non-alignment policy, but formally applied to join NATO in May this year. NATO signed the Protocol on Accession of Finland and Sweden to NATO on July 5, which gives the two countries NATO "invitee country" status, preparing for the next step into the ratification process.

The protocol means that Both Countries can participate in NATO meetings and obtain more intelligence resources, but until it is formally ratified, the two countries do not have NATO defense qualifications that "one country is attacked is equivalent to the attack of the whole Union". The approval process can take 6 to 8 months, or as long as a year.

According to the procedure, The formal accession of Fenri must be approved by all 30 existing NATO member states, and 23 countries have ratified it, and the remaining 7 countries are the Czech Republic, Greece, Hungary, Portugal, Slovakia, Spain and Turkey.

Since Turkey has demanded that Finland and Sweden make concessions first, otherwise opposing their accession to NATO, the three countries are recently holding further consultations on this matter.

According to Agence France-Presse reported on the 19th, Finnish Foreign Minister Javisto announced that Finland will host a meeting with Sweden and Turkey later this month, and the meeting will continue to discuss on the basis of the memorandum signed by the three countries in Madrid in June. Turkish Foreign Minister Cavushoglu has previously revealed that representatives of the three countries may meet on August 26.
