Writer and TV presenter, Justin Fornal is preparing to swim across the Kane Basin region, a 50-kilometer stretch of ice-covered area between Canada and Greenland. Fornal's group set off on August 7 and has now reached Greenland.

The swim will begin at Pim Island, a small outlying island off Ellesmere Island in Canada. He plans to paddle boats from Greenland and start swimming as soon as the weather and ocean conditions permit.

Fornal is the host of science channels, unsolved mysteries and untouched exploration shows, trying to understand mysteries such as Atlantis.

On Fornal's webpage, he says, "No one has ever swum in this area," and the question remains on how he tried it.

In an interview with the Toronto Sun, Fornal explained that a team of kayaks and Inuit groups from the Qanaaq area would lead him on the road. What he didn't explain was the way the expedition took place during the trial. Will he swim through in one go? Will he be divided into different stages?

Will he rest on the assisting vessel? Can he go to the kayaks that help? Traditionally, extreme open water swimmers are open to such details. But the approach of the Fornal project is still unknown.

The lack of detail overshadowed his so-called goals, and he looked forward to drawing attention to climate change and the Qanaaq region through the expedition.

English Channel Rules

We reached out to legendary cold water and marathon swimmer Lynne Cox to find out what she thinks about it.

"I thought I would call what Justin was doing 'adventure swimming,'" Cox says. "Justin will be traveling in a thick wetsuit and a thick swim cap. His goal is very different from the norms adopted by open water swimmers in the English Channel. ”

Cox explains, "According to the rules of the English Channel, you have to start from the coast and end at a location closer to the target without touching anyone or touching anything during the swim. You can only wear a swimsuit, a swimming cap and goggles, sunscreen, and some amenities to protect your skin and prevent inflammation. This kind of swimming is a way to test human ability and endurance. ”

It seems that Fornal's swimming may be about something else.
