It's not so much a handheld as it is a gamebook that's reduced in size and weight by half. And all this is to be able to squeeze out this AMD R7-6800U in its body. The GPD Win Max2 is not only the first mass-produced 6800U handheld, but it is basically certain that it is one of the most powerful 6800U handhelds in 2022.
The specific performance test we put later, first look at its most attractive point to me: it can be called brutal scalability. It's stuffed with a USB-A, an HDMI, a full-featured C port, and a USB4 interface equivalent to Raiden 3, which means it can also be connected to an external graphics card. Then there are two USB-A on the side and a TF and SD card slot on the other side. The richness of this interface definitely exceeds 99% of the thin and light costs.
There are also two screw holes under it, and when unscrewed, you can plug in a 2230 SSD, and on the other side is a 4G sim card slot, but I don't have this version in my hand.
The handle part also uses Hall rocker + linear trigger shoulder button + dual vibration motor + three-axis gyroscope, which is stuffed with this side.
It's not over yet! There are also two slits here, two magnetic sheets can be extracted from the inside, and the front of the joystick is covered, which changes from a handheld to a business light and thin book, and I really admire the imagination of the GPS team against the sky.
It can be said that a business light and thin should have the elements it has. It has a normal layout keyboard, a power fingerprint integrated button, a small but sensitive touchpad, a camera with decent picture quality, and a 2K full screen that supports touch.
This 10.1-inch 2K screen is far more refined than the standard of Apple's Retina screen, and I usually use even 1920 * 1200 resolution, so I feel very fine.
Brightness up to 400nit. Although it does not cover 100% of the sRGB color gamut, it is already the most comfortable screen I have ever seen on a Windows handheld, and I personally guess that this JDI screen may be designed for tablets.
After the appearance is introduced, let's take a look at the performance of the 6800U that everyone cares about. As I said before, 6800U True God U also. It balances the CPU, the core display and the power consumption very well, the CPU is about the level of the 12th generation i5, and the core display can reach the level of the desktop 1050Ti, not only the answer to the 2022 young thin version, but also on the handheld.
After my actual measurements, this 6800U can run up to 32W and 86 °C on the Win Max2, and it is said that if the core display is locked to 2200, it can run to the highest 40W.
This performance release has surpassed most 15W 28W 6800U notebooks. If you plug in the electricity every day, I recommend that you open 32W without a brain, because its fan is not very noisy. But if you're going to use it as a handheld, I recommend three gears: 9W power saving, 18W equalization, and 28W performance.
In my test, at 1200P low quality, 9W ran Tomb Raider 22 frames, 18W 57 frames, 28W 64 frames. As you can see, there is a diminishing marginal effect.
I've also tested a few other games where LOL averages more than 160 frames, Eat Chicken averages 76 frames, Apex averages 125 frames, CSGO averages 233 frames, Horizon 5 averages 72 frames, and Eldon Ring and Original God both lock 60 frames and can also run full.
Some very stressful games, such as cyberpunk and God of War, may need to reduce the resolution to 1280*800 and turn on the FSR function, which can also be played smoothly.
Don't worry if the screen is too blurry, this screen is small enough that as long as you don't connect the monitor to the outside, you can't actually see it.
So I think the positioning of Win Max2 is 9W+2K long endurance daily office, 18W+1200P mainstream game lock 60 frames smooth play, 28W+800P resolution to challenge the limit of 3A masterpieces. The following is the battery life performance in 9W+50% brightness + power saving mode:
This performance made me feel a bit like I was in a trance. To know that only a year ago, a variety of Windows handheld so-called free to play 3A standard or 720P low quality stable 30 frames on thank goodness, everyone will also comfort themselves that Switch 30 frames are not the same to play, host-level game experience. But now 6800U tells you, my lord, times have changed!
So who is the GPS Win Max2 for? If you are completely directed at the Windows handheld, then I advise you to calm down, wait for the 6800U version of the GCD Win4, that is more like the handheld. Win Max2 is more like a high-performance thin and light book, an ultra-small all-rounder, an expandable HTPC, if you have these needs, then Win Max2 is your only choice in this size.
