This eight-character proverb written in the corridor of the Intensive Care Department of the First Medical Center of the PLA General Hospital is a true portrayal of his medical career.
In the past 22 years since he joined the army, he has "snatched" more than 10,000 cases of critically ill patients from the hands of the god of death, and the mortality rate is as low as 3%-5%, ranking first-class at home and abroad.
Rushing to the frontline of Wenchuan earthquake relief, going to West Africa to fight the Ebola haemorrhagic fever epidemic, rushing to Pakistan to fight the new crown pneumonia epidemic... Over the years, he has bravely moved forward again and again to "the most beautiful retrograde", participated in major medical rescue missions at home and abroad, and fulfilled the promise of a soldier to the motherland and the people.
He always kept in mind the creed that "what critically ill patients need most is timely and scientific treatment", and as the direction of department construction, he made unremitting efforts to tackle key research and improve the international reputation of intensive care medicine in the mainland.
He is Zhou Feihu, director of the Department of Critical Care Medicine of the First Medical Center of the PLA General Hospital. On July 31, the Central Propaganda Department and the Political Work Department of the Central Military Commission jointly released 12 "most beautiful revolutionary soldiers in the new era", and Zhou Feihu was honorably elected.

Every year on May 12, Zhou Feihu receives greetings from Tang Yulan, a sichuan girl, who saved her life and saved her leg during the 2008 Wenchuan earthquake.
"You finally woke up, and Director Zhou guarded you for days and nights without closing your eyes." Tang Yulan, who was 24 years old at the time, learned from a nurse that when she was rescued from the 7-story ruins and sent to the General Hospital of the Chengdu Military Region (now the General Hospital of the Western Theater), many organs in her body were almost exhausted, and it was Zhou Feihu who did not hesitate to save her life day and night.
Tang Yulan survived, but faced new hardships - legs or amputations.
"I was just 24 years old, and if I had an amputation, it would really be an unbearable weight for life. I even had the idea of taking my own life. Tang Yulan said.
Zhou Feihu gave her the courage to be born. After learning about Tang Yulan's appeal, under the leadership of Lu Shibi and other old experts, Zhou Feihu and his comrades-in-arms thought about it again and again, repeatedly studied and judged, and decided to do their best to save the patient's leg. "How can such a young girl live without legs?" Zhou Feihu said: "Even if there is a glimmer of hope, we must do our best." ”

Durian is Tang Yulan's favorite fruit. During the treatment, she often talked to Zhou Feihu about her good times when she had studied in Thailand, and Zhou Feihu would also tell her thrilling stories about many rescues.
It's not just Tang Yulan. In the two months after the earthquake, Zhou Feihu accompanied many other treated patients day and night. Some have a high fever in the middle of the night, and Zhou Feihu appears at the first time in front of the hospital bed for emergency treatment; There is poor communication between patients and their families, and Zhou Feihu tirelessly runs at both ends... So that later, many patients could not see Zhou Feihu, and their hearts were anxious.
"You are the purest doctor I have ever seen!" A treated patient once commented on Zhou Feihu in person.
"As a doctor, it is a very happy thing to guard the patient day and night, and it is incomparable to see the patient who has been painstakingly saved recovered." Zhou Feihu watched the patient discharge and smiled happily.
"Chinese military doctors shoulder a heavy mission"
In 2015, Zhou Feihu was among those who urgently dispatched medical teams to Help Liberia fight the raging Ebola haemorrhagic fever outbreak. At that time, more than 100 health care workers had been infected and killed in Liberia.
"Are you scared?" A reporter once asked Zhou Feihu.
"It's false to say you're not afraid. But once you start to treat people, you can't take care of those people, and your mind is full of only thinking about how to save people. Zhou Feihu said.
The first patient Zhou Feihu admitted to be diagnosed with Ebola was a local primary school teacher, Muruba, whose virus has claimed the lives of three of her family members. Muruba was terrified, thinking that his time with the virus and diabetes and high blood pressure was running out.
Even if the patients have lost all their thoughts, the Chinese military doctors have never given up.
During that time, Zhou Feihu and his colleagues endured high temperatures, wearing airtight three-layer isolation suits to enter and leave the ward every day, while controlling Muruba's underlying disease, while improving the function of damaged organs from a critical medical point of view, and finally rescued her from the death line.
At the moment of discharge, Muruba expressed his simple wish in his heart: to touch Zhou Feihu's face with his own hands, which in her opinion was the most beautiful face of a Chinese military doctor.
"At that time, did you think you were just a doctor?" Every action of each of us represents China. Because you know you're a Chinese military doctor. Zhou Feihu said.
In more than two months, Zhou Feihu has participated in the treatment of 61 patients, 38 suspected Ebola patients and 5 confirmed patients, and the success rate of severe patients has reached more than 80%.
Whenever there is an urgent, difficult, dangerous and heavy task, Zhou Feihu always takes the initiative to take responsibility and never shirks it. In May 2016, when Chinese peacekeepers in Mali were attacked, soldier Shen Liangliang was killed and many people were injured.
"If I go, I don't even have to get a vaccine, I've had several shots in the fight against Ebola last year, and they're still within the validity period!" Zhou Feihu once again took the initiative to ask for help.
His superiors ordered him to serve as the head of the medical team and bring the wounded soldier home safely.
Flying to Mali, Zhou Feihu found that the task was more arduous than expected, and some of the seriously injured could not be transferred immediately. Due to limited medical conditions in Mali, the seriously wounded were quickly taken to the intensive care unit of a hospital in Senegal. As the only critical care medical expert in the medical group, Zhou Feihu chose to stay and care for the injured, and then returned to China for further treatment after his vital signs were stable.
Faced with difficulties such as tight equipment and simple medical conditions, Zhou Feihu relied on his rich clinical experience to help several injured people pass through the dangerous period and transfer from intensive care to ordinary wards in more than 20 days.
On the plane back to China, Zhou Feihu was worried about the sudden blood clots and breathing problems of the injured, and only used the stethoscope to auscultate and observe over and over again to help the injured move... In the end, the wounded returned safely to the embrace of the motherland.
Zhou Feihu said: "After practicing medicine for so many years, it is our duty to save lives. More often, a Chinese military doctor shoulders a heavy mission. ”
"Only bravery and love can move forward"
Zhou Feihu, who has witnessed many lives and deaths, knows that what critically ill patients need most is timely and scientific treatment.
"The ICU is a place where mistakes are not allowed." In order to improve the medical level of the department, in recent years, Zhou Feihu will also lead the team to build a "smart ICU", using big data early warning, standardized and standardized treatment, and improving the efficiency of treatment.
In view of the highly lethal labor-type heat stroke disease commonly used in the daily training of soldiers, Zhou Feihu conducted a series of scientific research, which greatly improved the success rate of critically ill treatment, and as a member of the all-army heat stroke treatment team and a distance education teacher of the whole army, he participated in the training of medical personnel of grass-roots troops for many times, achieved good results, and won 1 second prize for military medical achievements and 6 national patents.
As the project leader, Zhou Feihu also undertook 6 projects, including the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and published more than 60 papers as the first/corresponding author, including more than 20 PAPERS in SCI journals, of which 4 papers were published in the international authoritative journals of critical care medicine "CriticalCareMedicine" and "CriticalCare", and spoke at the International Critical Care Medical Conference many times, which greatly improved the international reputation of the discipline in mainland China.
In all kinds of work, Zhou Feihu has achieved the top, but he also has his own regrets.
