Beijing Yuying School makes full use of scientific and educational resources to build a scientific stage——

Science is within reach of campus

"Hurry up and pedal fast! It's coming soon! ...... Success! "Riding a bike and saying 'success'? The reporter was attracted by the lively scene in the Beijing Yuying School.

Looking closer, a bicycle fixed to the ground looks like an ordinary fitness device. Looking more closely, there is a special equipment behind the body - while pedaling the bicycle, the kinetic energy can be converted into electricity, and the light strip is lit to illuminate the "Taoli Hut" built by the students themselves. No wonder the students were elated.

In addition to the science museum, where can science education resources come from? How does the scientific interest of primary and secondary school students inspire? How to cultivate scientific literacy? Science education has become an important new topic, and many schools have begun to explore. Beijing Yuying School decided to make science within reach of its students.

Teaching aids "drop" everywhere on campus

Several students gathered in the corridor, and the tallest in the middle was a "mannequin". Students are "getting started" on each of the model's organs.

Isn't that going to break the teaching aids? But the teacher who passed by just smiled and walked away.

"The students learned about the human body this semester, and the biology teacher specially moved the model to the corridor so that students could explore closely and continuously." Jiang Xiaoxin, head of the science and technology curriculum department of Yuying School, was explaining to reporters when a burst of laughter came. It turned out that a student was disassembling the model organs while touching his stomach and laughing and telling his companions that the place where they hiccups was "here".

In the past, teaching aids were "shut" in the storeroom, and only teachers took them out during class, and put them back when they were finished, and it was difficult for students to have the opportunity to get started. In April 2022, the Ministry of Education issued the "Compulsory Education Curriculum Plan and Curriculum Standards (2022 Edition)", which emphasizes that the curriculum should be enhanced and practical, and the reform of the way of educating people should be guided. This is a strong guide for school science education.

Yuying School advocates that teaching aids should be used badly, not badly, and do not worry about students destroying.

As a result, teaching aids "fell" all over the campus: rocks, fossil specimens were placed in the corridor hall, simulating the paleontological world; Pluggable LEGO builds structures that challenge hands-on creativity; Teachers and students carefully selected science and technology exhibits to create a science and technology park, becoming a school "net red" punch card...

The atmosphere of science is strong, and the seeds of creation sprout. In the biological expansion and cultivation base, students have built an automatic spraying system, etc., so that the growth process of plants has automatic comprehensive management; Students make their own solar charging and lighting machines to provide temporary charging facilities for students and teachers in the accommodation.

The environment and education are actually the unity of the surface and the inside. Taking the campus environment as the background, activating students' thinking of scientific and technological innovation and cultivating their interest in scientific inquiry is an important idea for Yuying School to carry out science education.

"Let the wind of science and technology blow all over the campus, students immerse themselves in the world of science and technology, with the help of existing knowledge, deep research into unknown areas, you can harvest the fun of learning to apply!" Yu Huixiang, secretary of the party committee and principal of Yuying School, said so.

Cultivate students' hearts to ask more "why"

"Teacher, what is the fruit of this plant?" "Teacher, what's the name of this bug?" Every day at noon, primary school students will search for treasures all over the campus, and when they encounter new and interesting things, they will ask the teachers. But if there is no answer, the question is left behind.

Science teacher Li Doudou couldn't help but think: If it was just to know the answer, how much fun of exploration would be missed.

As a result, the "question mark blind ball" that swept the primary school students throughout the school was born. Small balls are hung in the teaching building, and the balls contain various questions, such as "how to distinguish the beetle species" and "Collect 10 kinds of rocks and make specimens". "Every question takes kids a lot of effort to find the answer." Li Doudou then posted the students' research results for everyone's study and reference. "After a while, there are fewer students who want ready-made answers and more who want to explore for themselves."

Science education has become more and more in-depth, and teachers have become more aware that scientific thinking ability, scientific inquiry and practice ability, and scientific attitude are the key to students' scientific literacy.

In 2018, Yuying School proposed to build a "Thinking and So" curriculum system. "The aim is to develop students' ability to identify, ask and solve problems." Ye Xuelian, the teacher in charge of the course, told reporters that the "Thinking and So" curriculum system includes thinking courses, exploration courses, and recourse courses, and the 3 courses are gradually progressive, respectively, pointing to providing students with basic knowledge and basic method skills in scientific research; Guide students to identify problems and conduct independent inquiry; According to students' personal interests and practical life, apply the knowledge and skills they have learned to solve problems.

In the "recourse course", when the teacher proposed that he could understand the principle of the equipment through disassembly, Yu Guo, a junior high school student who wanted to be an engineer, was very excited and immediately dismantled the old laptop when he returned home. "If you want to be a good engineer, you must first learn to tighten screws." Yu Guo said.

In order to make scientific and technological innovation and science popularization fly together, Yuying School has also carried out a series of "no threshold" science popularization activities: alumni square irregularly opens "science and technology lecture halls", playing dry ice, blowing bubbles and everything; Every Monday, the classroom will play the "Copda" video, and the students will bring scientific knowledge as the main speaker...

"I asked the students not only to introduce the knowledge points, but also to introduce the value behind the knowledge points and how they are applied in life." Jiang Xiaoxin said, "As long as there is a heart of 'asking one more why', everyone can enter the world of scientific exploration." ”

A stage for students who love to "toss" and turn

Liu Kaitai Insect Laboratory, Sun Zhou Han Salamander Laboratory, Liu Jingjia Chemical Laboratory... Yuying School has several laboratories named after students, all of which are specially built for students who have outstanding endowments and special interests in a certain aspect.

"After the teacher awakens the student's potential, his self-development ability is immeasurable." Yu Huixiang often said to the teachers.

Li Doudou and many teachers and students witnessed what "immeasurable" looked like. Sun Zhouhan is a salamander fan, he studied all kinds of salamander hand-drawn dozens of illustrations to the teacher, the teacher set up a column, all of them posted on the classroom wall. After Yu Huixiang heard about it, he came to see it and sent an invitation to Sun Zhouhan, hoping that he could talk about salamanders for the whole school staff.

The school also purchased two Chinese giant salamanders for Sun Zhouhan to place in an indoor pond. Here he started a community, the science of salamanders, to study the effects of water temperature on the growth of salamanders. The seeds of science in his heart sprouted in this way – his research results have achieved excellent results in competitions such as the Youth Science and Technology Innovation Competition.

Students love to tinker, and the school gives them a stage where they can "toss". In the words used for Huixiang, it is "to deal with the relationship between the all-round development of students and the development of interests." Some students want to explore the pH of different soils, and the teacher opens the door of the laboratory for them; There are students who want to observe the epidermal cells of different plants, and the teacher lends them portable microscopes to use...

The science stage can also be bigger, and every student can go up. At noon, science popularization volunteers appeared on time in the science and technology park. Every exhibit in the park, they are like a family treasure.

"This is a sound tube, and the tubes of different lengths resonate with the surrounding sound waves, and the resonance sound is different..." "Brother, will the sound still spread like this in a vacuum?" The elementary school student asked curiously.

This is a "super-syllabus". Volunteer Lu Yanzhou immediately wrote it down, went home to check the information, and the next day specially found the student to tell him the answer, and later added this new knowledge to the explanation.

"Students with non-gay interests share their learning on these stages, while also leading more students to join the world of scientific exploration." Slowly, these stages became experimental fields for the growth of students. Li Doudou said. (Reporter Lin Huanxin)
