Beijing, 5 Aug (Xinhua) -- Pelosi visited Taiwan for six deadly sins
A few days ago, PELOSI, speaker of the US House of Representatives, disregarded China's strong opposition and solemn representations, visited the Taiwan region, seriously violating the one-China principle and the provisions of the three Sino-US joint communiques, seriously impacting the political foundation of Sino-US relations, seriously violating China's sovereignty and territorial integrity, and seriously undermining peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait.
Pelosi's six crimes of treachery, trampling on the rule of law, undermining peace, interfering in internal affairs, political manipulation, and abusing power for personal gain during his visit will surely be judged and liquidated by history.
Stab in the back
Pelosi's visit to Taiwan seriously violates the commitments made by the US side in the three Sino-US joint communiques. In 1972, the United States made it clear in the Shanghai Communiqué that the United States recognized that all Chinese on both sides of the Taiwan Strait considered that there was only one China and did not dispute the position that Taiwan was part of China. In 1979, the United States made a clear commitment in the Sino-US Communiqué on the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations that the United States of America recognized the Government of the People's Republic of China as the sole legitimate government of China. Within this context, the people of the United States will maintain cultural, commercial and other unofficial relations with the people of Taiwan. In 1982, the United States made a clear commitment in the August 17 communiqué that the United States of America recognized the Government of the People's Republic of China as the sole legitimate government of China, with only one China and Taiwan as part of China. The U.S. government has no intention of violating China's sovereignty and territorial integrity, has no intention of interfering in China's internal affairs, and has no intention of implementing the "two Chinas" or "one China, one Taiwan" policy. The above three communiques are the political foundation of Sino-US relations.
In recent years, the US side has said one thing and done another, constantly blurring and hollowing out the one-China principle, and challenging China's bottom line and red line in the form of "cutting sausages". The US Congress has frequently made erroneous remarks on Taiwan and has put forward and deliberated and passed many negative Motions related to Taiwan, which has seriously damaged the political foundation of Sino-US relations.
After the Biden administration came to power, it not only did not change the serious mistakes made by the previous administration, but on the contrary, it further co-opted allies, ganged up and ganged up to play the "Taiwan card," and spread the theory that "Taiwan's status is uncertain" in the international arena in an attempt to promote the internationalization of the Taiwan issue and send a serious wrong signal to the "Taiwan independence" separatist forces.
As a country, the United States can have only one foreign policy. As an integral part of the US Government, the US House of Representatives should strictly abide by the US Government's one-China policy and not conduct any official exchanges with the Taiwan region. Pelosi is the third largest political figure in the United States and the second-in-line heir to the U.S. president after the vice president, and his activities in Taiwan in any form and for any reason are highly politically sensitive, and they are all major political provocations to upgrade official exchanges between the United States and Taiwan, and they are all betrayals of the political commitments of the United States.
Trampling on the rule of law
Pelosi's visit to Taiwan seriously violates the one-China principle. This principle is the universal consensus of the international community and the universally recognized basic norm governing international relations.
In October 1971, the 26th session of the General Assembly adopted Resolution 2758, which decided to "restore all rights of the People's Republic of China, recognize the representatives of her Government as the sole legitimate representatives of China in the United Nations Organization and immediately expel Chiang Kai-shek's representatives from the seats illegally occupied by the Organization and all the organs under it". This resolution not only completely resolves the issue of the representation of all of China in the United Nations, including Taiwan, politically, legally and procedurally, but also makes it clear that China has only one seat in the United Nations, not two, and that there is no such thing as "two Chinas" and "one China, one Taiwan." The one-China principle formed an integral part of the post-World War II international order. At present, 181 countries in the world have established diplomatic relations with the People's Republic of China on the basis of the one-China principle.
Pelosi said that the visit did not conflict with the long-term policy of the United States guided by the 1979 "Taiwan Relations Act," the Sino-US Joint Communiqué, and the "Six Guarantees to Taiwan," and used this as an excuse to visit Taiwan. In fact, the so-called "Taiwan Relations Act" or the "Six Guarantees to Taiwan" are purely unilaterally concocted by some forces in the United States, essentially putting the domestic law of the United States above international law and obligations, and ignoring and trampling on international law and norms governing international relations.
Breach of peace
The root cause of the current tension in the Taiwan Strait is the Taiwan authorities' repeated attempts to "rely on the United States for independence," and some people in the United States are deliberately engaged in "using Taiwan to control China." Pelosi's channeling of Taiwan is the latest example of the United States conniving at the separatist forces that support "Taiwan independence," which has seriously undermined peace and regional stability in the Taiwan Strait, and the United States should and must bear full responsibility for this.
A few days ago, many countries issued a statement condemning Pelosi's escalation of the situation in the Taiwan Strait, which is a deliberate political and military provocation and a bad act of undermining regional peace and tranquility, and resolutely supports China in taking all necessary measures to safeguard its sovereignty, security and development interests. Pelosi's provocative behavior of sneaking into Taiwan has also been opposed and criticized by many people of insight in the United States. They have publicly stated that Pelosi's trip is sensational, extremely dangerous and irresponsible. Polls on the island show that nearly two-thirds of respondents believe the visit undermines peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait.
The one-China principle is the needle of peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait. History and practice have repeatedly proved that when the one-China principle is fully recognized and conscientiously followed, the Taiwan Strait will remain calm and the two sides of the strait will be able to achieve peaceful development. And when the one-China principle is wantonly challenged or even undermined, the Taiwan Strait will be overcast and even stormy. The position of the Chinese Government and the Chinese people on the Taiwan issue is consistent, and resolutely safeguarding China's national sovereignty and territorial integrity is the firm will of more than 1.4 billion Chinese people.
Those who move against the general trend of history in the development of peace, no matter who they are, will be nailed to the pillar of historical shame.
Interference in internal affairs
During her visit to Taiwan, Pelosi used various occasions to make a big fuss about slandering and smearing China on issues such as democracy and human rights, Hong Kong, Tibet, Xinjiang, and religion, reflecting her consistent anti-China stance.
For many years, Pelosi has always regarded anti-China hatred of China as a political livelihood and grossly interfered in China's internal affairs. In 1991, during her visit to China, Pelosi provoked trouble and sensationalism in the name of supporting so-called democracy; In 2008, Pelosi fanned the fire over Tibet and urged then-U.S. President George W. Bush to boycott the Summer Olympics in Beijing; In 2019, Pelosi met with visiting anti-China rioters in Washington, calling the violent march in Hong Kong a "beautiful landscape"; In 2019, Pelosi met with Rebiya, the leader of "Xinjiang independence"; In 2021, Pelosi repeated the same tactic, calling on the United States to "diplomatically boycott" the Beijing Winter Olympics. On the Taiwan issue, a series of so-called "friendly Taiwan" bills passed by the US Congress in recent years have Pelosi's "black hand" behind them.
Pelosi turned a blind eye to the problems of the United States and did not care about the livelihood and welfare of his own people, but indulged in repeating the lies of the century that had long been debunked by countless facts, fully exposing the ugly face of his anti-China politicians. No matter what way she put on a show, it will eventually be a bamboo basket to hit the water, which will only leave more ugly records of the United States grossly interfering in the internal affairs of other countries in history.
Political manipulation
Pelosi said in vain that "the world today is facing the choice between authoritarianism and democracy" and that "the visit of the US congressional delegation to Taiwan demonstrates the firm support of the United States for Taiwan's democracy." But in fact, what Pelosi did was by no means to defend democracy, but to infringe on China's sovereignty, undermine China's stability, and curb China's development under the guise of "democracy."
Democracy is a common value of all mankind and the rights of peoples, not the private interests of a few. Whether a country is democratic or not should be judged by the people of that country, not by a small number of outsiders. Pelosi and some American politicians present themselves as defenders of "freedom, democracy, and human rights," judge whether other countries are democratic according to their own likes and dislikes, and hype up the so-called "democracy against authoritarian" narrative in the international arena, the essence of which is to adhere to the Cold War mentality and the erroneous concept of zero-sum game, to use ideology and values as tools for the party to fight against differences and promote geostrategy, to vigorously safeguard the acquired institutional power of the United States and the West, and to safeguard "Western-centrism" and "white supremacy" with Anglo-Saxon culture as the core.
For a long time, the United States has labeled, politicized, and weaponized democracy, carried out "democratic transformation," and planned "color revolutions," causing disastrous consequences. Since 2001, the United States has waged wars and military operations in Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya and Syria in the name of democracy, resulting in hundreds of thousands of deaths, injuries and displacement of tens of millions. Pelosi is doing the same now, once again exposing the ugly face of the United States' fake democracy and real hegemony, and will certainly be strongly condemned and opposed by the international community.
Abuse of power for personal gain
As the US media reported that the US midterm elections are approaching, the Democratic Party is in a deep decline, and Pelosi is trying to get "political extra points" by playing the "Taiwan card" and leaving a so-called political legacy. However, these achievements are "personal, symbolic, and short-term," and the serious consequences and impacts such as regional security tensions are long-term and the damage to Sino-US relations is far-reaching.
U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Green denounced Pelosi on twitter, saying that she was willing to take the risk of going to Taiwan only to help her husband, Paul Pelosi, invest in the chip industry for the benefit of the near future, and "Americans are tired of such a person who is addicted to self-interest, who has held power for decades throughout the collapse of the country."
Green's words are not empty, and lately, the Pelosis have been scandalous and questioned. According to a number of US media reports, Pelosi's husband, Paul Pelosi, has become a prominent figure in the US stock market in the past two years, and his investment vision can always be ahead of government policies. In 2020, the return on investment of the Pelosi couple was as high as 56%, while the return on investment of "stock god" Buffett was only 26% in the same period. By doing so, pelosi's family has made a net worth of more than 100 million. Before the stage, Pelosi was asked at a press conference whether her husband used her position to speculate in insider stocks, and Pelosi immediately denied it and left the market in a hurry.
Pelosi's stage performance is another bankruptcy of American politics, American diplomacy and American credibility, destined to be spurned by the world and swept into the garbage by history.
