Wang Yong, a native of Houpi, Xiaohekou Village, Cijian Town, Xin'an County, was born in 1932, joined the Chinese Volunteer Army in 1951, and joined the Communist Party of China in 1953.
When the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea broke out, Wang Yong was 19 years old at the time, because of his low stature and low weight, he did not have enough conditions to join the army, so he put stones in his pocket to increase his weight, tiptoed his heels to increase his height, and thought of passing the medical examination. Wang Yong recalled: "At that time, some people said that there were eight or nine times that they would not come back to fight in Korea, I did not care about those, I listened to the party's words, one person joined the army and the whole family was glorious, the United States could not be defeated, and never returned home." When the group got on the bus, I was at the front, and my mother wanted to look at me again, but she didn't look at it. At that time, we walked wearing big red flowers and singing the battle songs of the volunteer army, but we were glorious.
The Mountain of Crosses made meritorious contributions to the killing of the enemy
After wang yong joined the army, he attached great importance to study, actively demanded progress, and served as a correspondent first and then as a class leader. Later in the war, Wang Yong was already a platoon leader in the Chinese Volunteer Army.
Located on the west bank of the Han River in North Korea, at an altitude of 663 meters, there are four large mountains around the main peak as the core, shaped like a cross, so it is called Cross Mountain.
On June 12, 1953, the summer offensive began, and Wang Yong's task was to launch the first attack on Cross Hill. The terrain of the Crucifix Mountains is dangerous, and our army has few weapons and no control. Relying on the superiority of the air force, the enemy army bombed indiscriminately, and the battle was very fierce, and our army suffered heavy losses. A regiment went up to 170 people and only came back 32 people. In the Korean War, a total of 145 volunteers were killed in Singan County, and 48 were killed in the Battle of Cross Hill.
The 6th Company of the 600th Regiment then participated in the battle of Position 40 against Syngman Rhee's puppet army, which was vulnerable and achieved a great victory in this battle. Wang Yong successively captured 9 prisoners, and the whole company captured a total of 32. The company commander ordered Wang Yong alone to escort the prisoners. Wang Yong recalled: "Syngman Rhee's puppet army was unwilling to fight and was afraid of death, so I plucked up my courage and walked a line of guns to scare them into strengthening their own courage, and they did not dare to resist, so I escorted them all the way to the regimental headquarters." The Regimental Political Department commended Wang Yong for his bravery and tenacity in the attack on Position 40 and awarded him the second class merit. Wang Yong gloriously joined the Communist Party of China in that year. Wang Yong was the acquaintance of wang yong when he went to the countryside to visit veterans in 2012, and Wang Yong actively participated in social activities and went to government organs, schools, prisons, and troops to talk about the combat experience of the period of resisting US aggression and aiding Korea, about the people and things of the war, about the atrocities of American devils, and the glorious years when the Chinese and DPRK armies fought side by side.
