Shen Hongbing was the president of Nanjing Medical University and deputy secretary of the party committee, and in April 2021, he was appointed deputy director of the National Bureau of Disease Control and Prevention.
Shen Hongbing has been engaged in tumor molecular epidemiology research for 30 years, and has carried out systematic and innovative research on the discovery of lung cancer susceptibility genes and driver genes, as well as the prevention and control strategies of high-risk groups. At the embryonic genetic level, 21 Chinese new lung cancer susceptibility genes were discovered, a molecular genetic map of lung cancer in Chinese population was established, and a multi-genetic risk score (PRS) was created. At the somatic genomic level, the key driver genes and molecular mechanisms of lung cancer in Chinese population were revealed for the first time. It not only provides a new target for the study of the mechanism of lung cancer occurrence and development, but also successfully applies it to the prediction of lung cancer incidence risk, makes important contributions to tumor gene prediction and precise prevention, and promotes the discipline of tumor molecular epidemiology in mainland China to rank among the forefront in the world. He has published more than 400 papers in Nat Genet, Nat Rev Cancer, Lancet Respir Med, etc.; 14 national invention patents have been authorized; As the first person to complete it, he won the second prize of the National Natural Science Award, the He Liang He Li Science and Technology Progress Award, the second prize of the National Teaching Achievement Award and many other awards.
