Located 19 km north of Denizli, Turkey, Pamukkale is one of the World's Dual Heritage Sites and is known as one of the 100 most beautiful places in the world. The castle, as white as cotton, is one of the important symbols of "Romantic Turkey".
The local hot springs flow down from the top of the cave, washing the hillside into a stepped shape, and the spring water accumulates into small ponds. From a distance, it looks like cotton, which is very dreamy.

Pamukkale's water management has been controversial for more than 20 years. Various surveys have shown that the uncontrolled use and exploitation of water sources from travertine terraces may lead to the drying up of ponds. These striking rock formations are the result of earthquakes and tectonic plate movements in the region that bring mineral-rich thermal water to the surface. In some travertine pools, water is artificially introduced to ensure that visitors can enjoy the pleasure of bathing in the pool.
Bathing in pamukkale's natural pools has been a tradition for hundreds of years. But in the 20th century, the site reached a tipping point because of the lack of control on the management. Pamukkale's travertine landscape is so popular that many tourists flock to it, but no plans are in place to rationally use the pools or dispose of the garbage. The more hotels and inns you stay in, the more you keep the spring water privately to attract customers, and use it as part of the service project.
There are dozens of large and small pools in a whole pamukkale, but many of them are waterless or have only a small amount of water, but tens of thousands of tourists can still be seen every day. Originally a free Pamukkale, it has now begun to limit the number of tourists, slippers to enter and prohibit swimming, and charge 35 lira (about 50-60 yuan) for admission fees.
But this approach had little effect, and the government realized that pamukkale was not right, and rushed to deal with the restrictions on the surrounding accommodation and hotels to intercept spring water or development.
Such a magnificent natural landscape requires thousands of years of sedimentation, but at present, most of pamukkale's travertine terraces are completely dried up and tourists are forbidden to enter. Due to poor protection conditions, the Turkish authorities closed these areas.
Damage to the natural landscape is difficult to repair in the short term, and I don't know what Pamukkale will look like the next time I go to "Turkey where memories are buried".
Can't go abroad, in The Shangri-La in northwestern Yunnan, there are also such similar geomorphological features. Shangri-La Baishui Terrace is one of the largest Huaquan Terraces in mainland China, with an altitude of about 2380 meters. The reason for the formation is similar to Pamukkale, and the shape is also like a layer of terraces, with flowing water and white rocks, romantically overlapping.
Every year on the eighth day of the second lunar month (usually the beginning of March), it is the annual "white water" activity of the Naxi people. Naxi, Yi, Bai, Lisu and other ethnic groups will gather here, singing, dancing and picnicking to perform sacrifices and pray to the gods for a good harvest in the coming year.
Compared to Pamukkale in Turkey, it is smaller in size.
