Abbado, Bernstein, and Paita's three versions of "Ma Yi" recommend: both classical and feverish

author:Classical gramophone

In all of Mahler's works, his symphonies are deeply representative, and there are countless recordings that have survived, and the charm of Mahler's music has always made countless conductors and fans crazy.

Today, I recommend 3 editions of the Berlin Philharmonic conducted by Abbado, the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in Amsterdam conducted by Bernstein, and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Carlos Paita, these versions have both musicality and acoustics, both classical and audiophilic, and meet the needs of all kinds of musicians at once.

Of course, veteran classical music fans and Mahler fans are certainly aware of these records, but compared to some classical music fans or enthusiasts who have not understood "Ma Yi", they are all famous versions that you deserve to listen to, and they are also particularly intentional!

Mahler's Symphony No. 1 in D major, written between 1884 and 1888, is an autobiographical work written by Mahler when he was 28 years old, titled Titan, named after the poem of the same name by the German Romantic poet Paul. The Titans are the six men and six women born to the giant gods of Greek mythology, the god Ulanius and the earth god Gaia, so "Ma Yi" is also known as the "Giant" symphony.

Mahler applied the musical material of his vocal suite Traveller's Song directly to the creation of Symphony No. 1 in D major to form a deeper reflection and a broader expression of emotion. When we listen, we hear not only the echoes of his emotional world, but also his life notes and life insights when he was young.

Abado & Berliner Philharmonic

Abbado, Bernstein, and Paita's three versions of "Ma Yi" recommend: both classical and feverish

Throughout his life, Abbado and Mahler were inextricably linked, having performed Mahler's symphonies countless times and have long been known as the authoritative interpreter of Mahler's symphonies.

At the inaugural celebration concert in 1989, when Abbado became chief conductor of the Berliner Philharmoniker, he specially selected Mahler's First Symphony to perform. During the more than ten years of the Berliner Philharmonic, Abbado and the orchestra recorded a full set of Mahler's symphonies in DG, making the Berliner Philharmonic an expert in the true sense of playing Mahler's works, and Abbado's Mahler Symphony is often called another benchmark after Bernstein.

Today's "Ma Yi" vinyl record is the recording of that performance, and it is the first time that DG has been released in the form of vinyl, which is of special significance. The recording was awarded three stars by the Penguin Record Guide, and Phonograph magazine commented: "Abbado and the Berliner Philharmoniker's Ma Yi have an unaffected warm and elegant voice, which is a firm and authoritative performance", and his Mahler recording was once generously praised by music critics as "the perfect Mahler".

Abbado's Mahler is hailed as deeply moving, in which people feel the struggle of life, the detachment of perseverance to the end, and Abbado opens a new Mahler window for the audience with great strength. Under its command, the Berliner Philharmoniker's control over the ups and downs of the timbre can be described as free, the strings are thick and thick, the copper pipes are full and majestic, and the wooden pipes are full of warm luster. Abbado uses dynamic speed to create more fluidity and intimacy for Ma Yi. He doesn't need the listener to sit precariously, so he can inadvertently make you deeply attracted by the vivid notes flowing here.

Bernstein & Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra Amsterdam

Abbado, Bernstein, and Paita's three versions of "Ma Yi" recommend: both classical and feverish

Also known as Bernstein, a conductor with great ties to Mahler and sparing no effort in promoting Mahler's music, under his influence, many conductors in the music world have also recorded Mahler's works, which triggered the Mahler boom in the 1980s.

Bernstein's performance of Mahler's symphony has long been highly regarded, and he has conducted the performance of this symphony several times, but this version is extremely outstanding, occupying an overwhelming advantage in the selection of 300 famous Japanese record art songs, and its influence is extremely far-reaching, so that many Mahler symphony spokespersons such as Salty, Abado, Kubelik, Walter, Hetteck and other Mahler symphony spokesmen can not match it as a whole.

Performing this series is the world-renowned "century-old orchestra" Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, which has become a signature in the field of Dutch classical music with its strings of "Velvet Sound", brass of "Golden Sound", "very distinctive" woodwind sound and prestigious percussion.

In 1904, Mahler personally visited Amsterdam to conduct his fourth symphony, and since its inception, many conductors have led the orchestra to perform the Mahler Symphony, thus becoming a well-deserved representative orchestra for mahler symphony performance.

The uplift philharmonic team upgraded the "super stereo" of the year into a new high-definition sound audio-level carrier, in addition to maintaining the original analog recording, the texture, layering and spatial sense of each part of the orchestra have been improved, especially the timpani drum, cymbals, horns and other more three-dimensional and more surging "sweeping" hearing, amazing! In addition, it has been unanimously affirmed and appreciated by the widow of the master furtwängler and the French Mahler biographical authority Henry-Louis de la Grange, as well as the strong recommendation of "Sound Technology" and "HiFi Sound"!

Warm tips: the fourth movement, be sure to be careful of the volume, electric light flint, is the choice of the examination machine; The first movement is worth savoring patiently; The bass at the beginning of the second movement is very Q-playing, and it feels like a spa for the ear; The nursery rhyme "Two Tigers" can be heard in the third movement, which is a melody from a Jewish folk song.
