Speaking of the country that has been ungrateful to us in modern times, it can be said that we have grasped a lot of it. Our neighbors alone can count a bunch of them, for example, Vietnam, as we all know, during the Vietnam War, we provided them with a lot of assistance, and even sent elite troops, and as a result, as soon as the war ended, they pointed their guns at us, and we were forced to start a self-defense counterattack against Vietnam.
In addition to Vietnam, there is another neighbor who has also chosen to take revenge, and this country is Myanmar. During World War II, Japan sent troops to attack Southeast Asian countries, including Burma.
As the main force in the Asian battlefield, although it is also in the depths of the sea, we did not choose to stand by and watch, but sent an expeditionary force to help them.
During this period, we can say that they have bowed to the fullest, and the reason why they were able to defend their territory was that our soldiers bought it with blood. In order to help them resist Japan, we had nearly 100,000 soldiers sacrificed on this land.
But they did not expect that after half a century had passed, they would take revenge and razed the martyr's tomb to the ground. So why did we help Burma in the first place? The expeditionary force went to Burma to fight
Fast forward to 1942, when the War of Resistance had entered a white-hot phase, and since the outbreak of the Pacific War, the Japanese army had become more and more crazy and could not wait to expand the battlefield.
They set their sights on Southeast Asia, and then launched an offensive against the Philippines, the Indochina Peninsula and other places. After successfully capturing them, they continued to march south, and Myanmar faced a crisis.
Myanmar is located in our southwest, the geographical location is very important, at that time there were four main international aid routes for us, the eastern coastal passage, the northwest passage from Xinjiang to the Soviet Union, the passage connecting Kunming's Indochina Peninsula, and the Yunnan-Burma corridor connecting Kunming and Burma.
Seeing that this war is becoming more and more difficult, the Japanese side intends to cut off our international aid route and cut off our international ties. They have cordoned off the eastern seaboard, and the next target is Myanmar.
The United Kingdom, the United States and other countries watched the Japanese side continue to expand the battlefield, and their hearts were also very anxious. But at the same time, it was held back by the European battlefield, and there was no time to take care of the Far East, and could only hope for our army.
Naturally, we also understood the Japanese side's ideas, so in 1942, we sent Du Yuming to lead more than 100,000 expeditionary troops to Fight in Burma, and thus began the tragic and magnificent journey of the expeditionary force in Burma.
At that time, the burmese military strength was not strong, and it was impossible to resist the japanese attack, so our expeditionary force became the main force of the war of resistance. In the three years of the War of Resistance, we helped them recover more than fifty cities and more than 80,000 square kilometers of land, but at the same time they also paid a tragic sacrifice.
According to relevant information, more than 100,000 people of our expeditionary force died here, including fourteen senior generals. Some of the remains of these martyrs who died on the battlefield were transported back to China for burial, but because of the chaotic situation on the battlefield at that time and the inconvenience of transportation, many people had to choose to bury them on the spot.
After the end of the War of Resistance, the surviving expeditionary forces were about to return home, so mausoleums and monuments were built for the martyrs who remained in Burma.
Ungrateful and razed the mausoleum to the ground
It stands to reason that we have such a great favor to them, even if we do not need to reciprocate, but we will not take revenge. At the very least, these martyrs should be given the respect they deserve. And the significance of this mausoleum is obviously more than this, it is not only a profound historical imprint of the anti-Japanese period, but also a proof of friendship between China and Myanmar.
Any country would protect it, but they wouldn't. From the beginning, they did not thank us in the slightest, and they were not even willing to build mausoleums for the martyrs.
Not only that, but in 1987, we wanted to worship these martyrs, but they stopped us. Instead of thanking them, they said they hadn't asked us to help them. That's not all, and even more egregiously, their government ordered the mausoleum to be razed to the ground. Why?
It turned out that in recent years, with the implementation of their policy of opening up to the outside world, the economy has begun to grow continuously, and high-rise buildings have gradually been built. However, with the rise of high-rise buildings and the improvement of infrastructure, there have also been many problems.
Because their land area is not large, there is very little land that can be used, so they set their sights on this cemetery. They intend to bulldoze the place and then build tall buildings.
However, as soon as this idea was proposed, it was strongly opposed by our side, and even their local people also protested, but they still insisted on the decision and finally bulldozed the mausoleum.
The most infuriating thing is that many countries during World War II provided them with assistance, such as the United Kingdom and the United States, which also built cemeteries here, and even the Japanese side also built cemeteries. But only our cemetery was treated this way.
They are tolerant of their enemies, but why do they treat us like this? What are the relations between China and Myanmar?
Reasons for Myanmar's behavior
This began in the nineteenth century, when the British were colonizing everywhere, and after they came to South Asia, they first made India their colony, and then they looked at Burma, and they launched three wars in succession, completely taking Burma and turning it into their colony.
Later, in order to facilitate administration, they were incorporated into India and became a province of India. Since then, their people have struggled to survive under the dual oppression of the British and Indian sides.
Although the Burmese people have resisted several times, their strength is too weak, and the result of each time is failure. After a long period of resistance, they gradually lost their fighting spirit and no longer wanted to achieve independence by force, but began to seek a way of peace.
They tried several times to negotiate with the British side, but they could not find a good time until the outbreak of World War II. In 1940, the Burmese side expressed its willingness to stand in the same camp as the British side and jointly fight against the Japanese army, but only if they were independent.
But the British knew their strength and did not look at them, so they did not agree to their demands. The Burmese side was very angry after being rejected, and simply called on the people to abandon the battle and leave the British side alone to fight against the Japanese army.
The British strongly condemned this act and seized several key Figures in Burma to force them to continue the war.
At this time, the Japanese side learned of this news, they believe that this is a good time to divide the two sides, if they can pull the Burmese side to their same camp, then they can take Burma effortlessly.
Therefore, the Japanese side immediately sent someone to contact the Burmese side, expressing their willingness to provide them with equipment and weapons, and could work with them against the British army. At that time, the Burmese side only had independence in mind, so it did not hesitate much to agree to the Japanese demand.
However, they did not dare to directly oppose the British side, so they only secretly helped the Japanese side to collect important intelligence, waiting for a suitable time, and fought against the British army with the Japanese side.
With the help of the Burmese side, they had a lot of intelligence and learned about the importance of the Burma Highway. So in 1942, the Japanese launched an offensive against Burma. The Burmese side finally waited for this moment, immediately responded to the Japanese army, and joined the Japanese camp.
But what we did not expect was that we were suddenly killed halfway through, and at that time, because the British side was really powerless to resist the Japanese army, they sent us a cry for help, and our expeditionary force officially entered Burma to fight.
Therefore, in the eyes of the Burmese, we are not friends or benefactors at all, but enemies who prevent their independence. So they had a very bad attitude towards us.
And when the Japanese surrendered, although we helped them regain the land, they still did not get rid of the British control, so they regarded us as accomplices of the British side, not only did not appreciate us, but were full of dissatisfaction, until they became independent, they were alleviated.
China-Myanmar relations
Therefore, The relationship between China and Myanmar is not friendly, it has always been relatively flat, and even in the early days of the founding of the country, there were territorial disputes. One early morning in 1955, there was heavy fog on the China-Myanmar border, and the surrounding situation was difficult to see.
Our border guards were patrolling the neighborhood as usual, when they suddenly heard rapid footsteps from the opposite side, followed by gunshots. Our border guards reacted first to the remnants of the nationalist side, and in order to avoid an accident, he immediately shot back.
But what I didn't expect was that such a small thing caused great consequences. It turned out that there was no national army on the other side, which was just a misunderstanding, and the original misunderstanding explained that this matter was over, but the US side suddenly came to insert a foot and began to make a big fuss about it.
They spread the word everywhere internationally that we have shot at The Burmese side, wanting to provoke war and destroy our international image. Many of our neighbors around us heard this and began sending heavy troops to the border to prevent our surprise attack.
The Burmese side knows that this is a misunderstanding and still chooses to side with the United States. He also took advantage of this to propose to redivide the border and assign Jiangxinpo and other places to them.
Finally, in order to get out of the diplomatic predicament, resolve the dispute, and save our international image, after several negotiations, the two sides redrawn the border and allocated 80% of the disputed territory to them. Relations between the two sides have also become very rigid.
