Chestnut-throated bee tiger's "feeding of love"
On the branches, two "summer elves" dressed in "blue-green colored skirts" stood side by side. Suddenly the male bird flew out with his wings open, and soon flew back to the female with a small insect, excitedly swinging the blue fan-shaped tail feathers, extending his neck, and handing the female "love feeding".

"It's a lot like the act of 'giving a bride price' when a human proposes marriage." Ke Yukun, a member of the Xiamen Bird Watching Association, said that the chestnut-throated humming tiger belongs to the summer migratory birds in Xiamen, and every year in April and May, it settles in the Wuyuanwan Chestnut-throated Bee Tiger Nature Reserve and breeds, and leaves around September.
During this time, citizens and friends can see the figure of chestnut-throated bee tiger going out to forage for food in Xianyue Mountain, Zhonglun Park, Wuyuanwan Wetland Park, Xiamen University Xiang'an Campus and other places. However, outside the reserve, the shy chestnut-throated bee tiger rarely stages such a "love drama".
Three Treasure Birds' "Mutual Show of Love"
Recently, the summer migratory birds that have come to Xiamen to "talk about love" are not only chestnut-throated bee tigers, but there is a pair of inseparable three treasure birds near the "Siyuan Valley" of Xiamen University, who like to stand on the wires and show their love.

The Three Treasure Bird is a bird of the genus Three Treasures of the Dharma Monk Family, with a total of 10 subspecies, a body length of 26-29 cm, and a weight of 107-194 grams. The whole body is blue-green , the head and wings are darker , dark brown , and the primary flight feathers have pale blue spots at the base. The iris is dark brown, and the mouth and feet are red.
They often stand on the top of tall trees on the side of the road at the edge of the forest for a long time, or fly in circles in the air, flying up and down, and "quacking" as they fly. If insects in flight are found, they are chased and preyed; If lizards or insects are found on the ground, jump instead of walking to prey on the ground.
The "Love Story" of the White-Fronted Tern
In Xiang'an District, Xiamen City, the reef by the liuwudian sea is a paradise for white-fronted terns to play. White-fronted terns often groom their feathers on the reef and wait for their partners to return. Sometimes you will see such a scene: the male birds hover in the sky to show off, and suddenly a fierce prick into the water, a small white strip in the mouth to fly to the lover to offer courtesy.
The females each occupy a good position on the reef, which is their own home territory, and no other birds are allowed to "touch". If it is not their own "lover", even if the male bird has fish in its mouth, they do not buy it, but directly shout and drive away, and the sharp beak serves.
If it is her own "lover", the female bird sees it from a distance and tears open her throat and calls out loudly.
The next step is to test the "lover's" fishing skills and flying skills. The male holds a small white strip in his mouth and uses the difficult technique of fixed-point hovering to accurately deliver the fish to the female's mouth. This little fish should be the "love thing" of the white-fronted tern in-laws!
In addition to them, the orange-headed ground plover, the Hainan blue fairybird, the black-pillowed kingbird and other summer migratory birds in the woods, as well as the golden-eyed plover, white-faced plover and black-winged long-legged sandpiper on the seashore, have recently become homes in Xiamen and begun to breed.
Tips
"Birds are very sensitive during the breeding season, and you need to pay great attention to ornamental shooting." Chen Hao, director of the Xiamen Bird Watching Association, reminded that bird watching must keep a distance during the breeding period, and if wild birds are found to have abnormal reactions such as uneasiness and avoidance, they must be stopped immediately. If you encounter aggressive birds such as red-billed blue magpies that are brooding, you must not rush to approach them, let alone try to frighten and drive them away. In addition, if the nesting site of wild birds is found, it must not interfere with the nest or destroy the surrounding vegetation, so as not to abandon the nest or attract natural enemies, and at the same time, the location should not be disclosed or shared.
