The world's largest freshwater fish in the Mekong

A record-breaking oversized female Giant freshwater stingray is about to be released back into the Mekong River, ShangDing Province, Cambodia. On June 13, Cambodian fishermen caught a 300-kilogram Chafi narrow-tailed stingray in the Mekong River, which is 4 meters long and 2.2 meters wide, making it the largest and heaviest known freshwater fish in the world. The researchers said this is the fourth female giant stingray to be found in the mekong in the past 2 months, meaning that the freshwater quality and environment in the basin are maintained well, allowing freshwater fish to grow to a larger size. Affected by environmental pollution and overfishing, about 70% of the world's large freshwater fish species are threatened with extinction.
