Speaking of southeast Asia's strongest country, is Indonesia, whether it is land area, economic aggregate or population have won the ASEAN laurels, but also in the forefront of the world, taking 2021 data as an example, Indonesia's annual GDP is as high as 1185.805 billion US dollars, ranking 16th in the world, this value is 3 times that of the high-potential player Vietnam in the same period (Vietnam 362.619 billion US dollars ranked sixth in Southeast Asia). In terms of geographical environment, Indonesia covers an area of about 1.91 million square kilometers, consisting of more than 17,000 islands, many islands make Indonesia sit on a long coastline of 54,716 kilometers, the special geographical environment makes Indonesia have a natural appeal to build a strong navy, and the pioneer of the sea protection is the Sigma series of corvettes imported from the Netherlands.

Small navies like to protect themselves the most
For the navies of Southeast Asian countries, their naval strength is not very strong, coupled with the financial crisis in 1997, the development of naval equipment in various countries has become more shy, and for small countries, they are more inclined to purchase corvettes with a tonnage of about 2,000 tons, such as the German MEKO-100 Kedate-class frigate introduced by the Malay Navy. As well as the Russian Cheetah 3.9 corvette introduced by the Vietnamese Navy, Indonesia also spent $1 billion in 2004 and 2006 to order the "Sigma 9113" from the Dutch Cedar Shipyard in two batches, a total of 4, the Indonesian Navy called it "Dibonnegoro" class frigates.
Sigma Model 9113
SIGMA is the abbreviation of the Ship Integrated Geometrical Modularity Approach, which is characterized by the concept of modular design, which can flexibly change the size of the hull and the weapons and equipment carried according to the needs of the user. The main export types of Sigma-class frigates are Type 9113, Type 9813, Type 10513 and Type 10514 (91, 98, 105 represent hull length, 13 and 14 represent hull width).
The Dibonegoro-class Sigma Type 9113 frigate embodies the stealthy design in the hull shape, adopts an economical chai-chai joint propulsion power unit in terms of power, and is equipped with two Pierstick 20PA6B STC diesel engines, with a maximum speed of 28 knots and an endurance of 3600 nautical miles when cruising at 18 knots.
Full load displacement | 1700 tons |
captain | 90.7 meters |
Wide port | 13 meters |
draft | 3.6 meters |
Crew establishment | 80 people |
In terms of armament, the Dibonnegoro-class Sigma Type 9113 frigate was equipped with an Otto Melera 76 mm naval gun at the bow, and two 20 mm cannons were also placed in the side of the ship for small surface targets, while the air defense was relatively crotch-pulled, and only a French MBDA quad-mounted Mistral short-range anti-aircraft missile launcher was installed at the top of the bridge and the stern, with a maximum range of 6 km/Mach 2.5. In terms of anti-ship, two twin "MM-40"Flying Fish" Block-2 anti-ship missile launchers were arranged in the X-shape of the ship's stern, with a maximum range of more than 70 kilometers and a speed of Mach 0.93. In addition, a B-515 triple 324 mm torpedo launcher was placed on each side of the ship's stern, which can launch MU90 light anti-submarine torpedoes, and although there is no hangar, the stern helicopter deck can support take-off and landing of 5-ton light helicopters.
On the electronics, the Dibonegoro-class Sigma Type 9113 frigate placed a Thales MW-08 3D C-frequency C-frequency air-to-plane search radar at the top of the main mast, with the Thales' TACTICOS combat data system at its center. For anti-submarine detection, it is the UMS4132 Kingklip in the Netherlands of Thales with a mid-frequency active-passive bow sonar.
The first Dibonegoro-class Sigma Type 9113 frigate, designation Dibo Negoro (hull number: 365), began construction on 24 March 2005, launched on 16 September 2006, entered service in July 2007, and the second was named Sultan Hassanuddin Hanasudin (hull number: 366), and the start and launch of the first was on the same day, in November 2007. The third ship Sultan Iskandar Muda and the fourth ship Fran Kisebo were converted to the Indonesian shipyard, and the third ship (hull number: 367) and the fourth ship (hull number: 368) were commissioned between 2008 and 2009.
Sigma Model 10514
The service of the Dibonnegoro-class Sigma Type 9113 frigate alleviates the embarrassing situation of the Indonesian Navy that has long relied on second-hand frigates as a card face, and has the characteristics of flexible response and balanced combat capabilities, which is very suitable for indonesian coastal patrol missions, but lacks air defense capabilities and situational awareness capabilities. So the Indonesian Navy ordered two Sigma Type 10514 frigates from the Netherlands in two batches in 2010 and 2013, called the "EdimarTa DiNata" class frigates.
The new Sigma 10514 frigate was upgraded to a 12-unit Sylver A-35 vertical launch system in terms of air defense, which can launch MICA short-range anti-aircraft missiles, the vertically launched Mika missile has a maximum speed of more than Mach 3 and a maximum range of 20 kilometers, and the anti-ship missile has also been upgraded to a more advanced MM-40 Flying Fish Block-3 anti-ship missile, while also adding a hangar design. Most critically, the main radar will be upgraded to the more advanced Thales SMART-S MK-2 three-coordinate radar, with a maximum altitude of 250 kilometers.
