Among the founding generals of New China, Gan Siqi and Li Zhen were the only generals. They have been in the same boat for decades, but they have no biological children of their own.
The two regarded the remains of martyrs and the children of cadres as their own children, and successively raised and cared for the children of more than 20 martyrs and cadres for them to attend school and cultivate talents as pillars of the country.
It is understandable that everyone can cultivate and take care of the children of martyrs, but why do we regard the children of some cadres as our own?
During the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea, Gan Siqi and his wife went to work on the front line. Not long after, his comrade-in-arms Wang Zhengzhu assisted Mr. Peng as deputy chief of staff. In 1953, Gan Siqi and his wife returned to China, while Wang Zhengzhu and his wife were still on the front line. Gan Siqi and Li Zhen took their three children to their home to take care of them and developed deep feelings.
After Wang Zhengzhu and his wife returned to China, their children often went to live in Gansiqi's home.
In 1957, he took the children of Chen Xiyun, an old Red Army soldier who died of illness, to his side, and trained his daughter Chen Xiaomei to be admitted to the People's Liberation Army Foreign Chinese College, and after graduation, he was assigned to the border defense force.
Don't look at Gan Siqi and Li Zhen, who have a lot of salaries, and raising more than 20 children is also stretched. They live very economically, a wicker chair is used for 14 years, they are not willing to throw it away, they rarely buy new clothes for themselves, and the marching box has been cracked for 40 years and is reluctant to replace it.
Gan Siqi and his wife are very strict about the education of their children, children can do what they can, try to let them do it themselves, from an early age to cultivate their own thinking and feelings of working people, after growing up to serve the society. For the children, they insist: the children go their own way, they break through on their own.
Under their words and deeds, more than 20 children have been admitted to colleges and universities, and after graduation, they have been assigned to work in various fields to contribute to new China.
