The Achzarit armored personnel carrier is a heavy armored personnel carrier developed by Israel in the 1980s and is mainly used for the transport of personnel.
History of R&D
During the wars of 1967 and 1973, Israel captured hundreds of Soviet-made T-54/T-55 main battle tanks, many of which were intact tanks abandoned by arab forces. In 1988, the IDF converted these T-54/T-55 tanks into heavy armored personnel carriers and named them "Achizarit" armored personnel carriers, which mean female killers in Hebrew.

Hull construction
The Achizarit "armored personnel carrier was a modification of the Soviet T54/T-55 tank, the original tank turret was removed, the hull was raised, the roof was equipped with 5 hatches and an overhead weapon platform, the engine was rear-mounted, and only the rear door of the mussel shell structure was added on the right side, and personnel could get off the car from the rear, but the passage was narrow and only allowed one person to pass. The vehicle has 3 crew members and can carry 8 soldiers.

Attack ability
The roof of the "Achizarit" armored personnel carrier can be equipped with up to 4 7.62 mm MAG general machine guns and a 60 mm mortar, and 1 machine gun mounted on the overhead weapons platform can be fired from the car by remote control, and has low-light night vision goggles, which can be used to fight at night, and if necessary, it can also be equipped with weapons such as automatic grenade launchers and large-caliber machine guns.
Protection capabilities
The Achirit armored personnel carrier adopts composite armor and reinforces the front armor, which is equivalent to 200 mm homogeneous steel when resisting kinetic energy bullets, and the anti-armor bullet can be better. The sides of the hull are reinforced with meals and have a large gap, which is enough to protect against the attack of light anti-rockets such as M72, RPG-7 and so on.
