The works of the Danish realist painter Monsende, often featuring scenes of dense forests and Danish country life, are rendered with a high degree of precision to create romantic and poetic natural landscapes. He often depicts a peaceful pastoral scenery, quiet and beautiful, so that people can feel the natural scenery in the picture as if they are immersed, and forget the hustle and bustle of the city.

Born in Denmark in 1859, Monsend's father was a wealthy shipbuilder who valued his children's education. They sent Monsend to the Ferdinand School of Painting to learn to paint. The famous Danish landscape painter Andreas Fritz was his first teacher. At the age of 16, Monsend moved to Copenhagen alone to attend Copenhagen College. During his studies, he was influenced by the works of Kristen Koebuk and Peter Christian Skovgaard, the latter of whom was a Romantic painter and a major figure in the Golden Age of Danish painting. The education That Monsende received helped him absorb many of the artistic techniques of academic naturalism. But he did not stick to these techniques, but instead applied them flexibly, creating a style of his own, the realist art style. This style of creation earned him great accolade and wealth throughout his life.

In 1882, Monsende traveled via Germany to Rome and the island of Capri, where he was very impressed by the light of the Mediterranean, the brightness of the sun and the glow of color. This is also one of the important reasons that will influence his creation in the future. Monsend worked in the studio of the painter William Adolf Bouguereau until 1883, who later also taught to Henri Matisse. This work experience taught Monsend to control the brush more freely, which also made his work lighter and more vivid.

During his lifetime, Montede traveled extensively, visiting several countries including Algeria, Spain, Egypt and Greece. Monsend, the favorite painter of King George I of Greece, was briefly a guest of George I, and George I also commissioned him to create portraits of the Greek royal family. In 1893 he was invited to Athens, where he spent a year painting the city and countryside of Athens. During Monsende's long career, he dedicated himself to depicting the landscape and coastline of Denmark. His paintings are romantic and poetic; he is a romanticist, and in his depiction of the magnificent and immortal other side of the landscape, he also has an extraordinary eye for detail and color.

Often people compare him with Heshkin, the same is fine, but Monsend is different, he pays more attention to the "sense of light", the picture is not so solemn, more fresh and natural. Because Monsende traveled all over the place throughout his life and received a wealth of artistic studies, these laid a solid foundation for his fresh naturalistic painting style. From the forest to the coast, from farmhouses to the countryside, Monsende's work, though rich in subject matter, always revolves around the poetic countryside. Admiring his paintings, we seem to have entered a wonderland in a dream, adding peace and warmth to the aftertaste.
