Turn American airplanes into broken iron! Wu Jianqi, a "god-level" great man, developed an anti-stealth radar

author:West Orange History

In 1999, the mainland embassy in Yugoslavia was bombed by NATO, and three Chinese journalists were killed on the spot. The initiator of all this is the B-2 bomber led by the United States.

Looking at the United States, a young man made a vow: I will turn American planes into a pile of scrap iron!

Now he has done so, and after more than two decades of research, he has developed the world's first anti-stealth advanced meter-wave radar. He is our hero, Wu Jianqi.

A country's hatred is hard to dispel and it is difficult to make a vow

In 1983, the United States successfully developed a stealth bomber, code-named F-117A "Nighthawk", the rumored "Nighthawk" cost up to $45 million, it can be anti-infrared, anti-radar, anti-electronic, anti-acoustic detection. Simply put, nighthawks are counter-detection beings.

In 1989, the United States invaded Panama, F-117A "Nighthawk" showed its skills, only 15 hours, the US military completely destroyed the Panamanian government, Panama shocked the whole country!

In 1991, the U.S. military used the aircraft again in the Gulf War. The Nighthawk struck with precision, and in less than 5 minutes, it directly destroyed 20 air defense commands, networks and power systems in Baghdad, and the entire city fell into darkness.

It can be said that the existence of US stealth bombers has brought huge security risks to various countries. Although all walks of life are full of vigilance against the "Nighthawk", under the limitations of detection technology, there is nothing to do with it.

In 1999, the United States sent their right-hand man, the B-2 stealth bomber, a bomber known as the "Phantom in the Air" to Yugoslavia with a purpose.

On May 8, 1999, the B-2 stealth bomber stopped over the mainland Embassy in Yugoslavia, and as soon as the hatch opened, five offensive missiles flew towards the embassy at great speed.

With a loud bang, the embassy was instantly razed to the ground. Among them, three reporters from the mainland were unfortunately killed: Shao Yunhuan, a reporter from Xinhua News Agency, Xu Xinghu, and Zhu Ying, a reporter from Guangming Daily.

As soon as the news came out, the whole country was shocked! On the surface, nato headed by the US military is bombing Yugoslavia, but in fact, everyone knows what the purpose of the US military is.

Looking at such a brutal behavior of the US military, China broke out into an "anti-American" frenzy at that time. Countless patriots rushed into the streets, pulling up banners, shouting slogans and putting up slogans. Suddenly, there were incessant calls for "overthrowing US imperialism" and "paying back blood debts with blood."

Some patriots even ran to the front of the US Embassy in China, pulling slingshots and throwing bricks at the US embassy in protest.

What everyone did not expect was that the US response to this matter was extremely perfunctory:

Accidental injury!

In just two words, a stroke passed through 3 reporters who died innocently, as well as more than 20 injured personnel. Such behavior of the US side has once again aroused public anger, but anger is useless, in the face of powerful stealth fighters, as long as it cannot detect its trajectory for one day, the US military has the capital to continue to run rampant.

"Ghosts in the Air"

In the midst of the shouts and shouts of many patriots to kill, Wu Jianqi also spoke, and he looked at the B-2 fighter plane in the news broadcast, and with tears in his eyes, he made a vow:

"I'm going to turn American planes into a pile of scrap iron!"

Wu Jianqi knew that if there was no technology that could detect stealth fighters, then the threat of the US side would always exist. If we want to sanction it, we must develop a new type of radar so that the arrogant stealth fighter of the United States will not be hidden.

And the first condition for all this is to understand why the stealth fighter can be "invisible". In fact, the stealth mentioned here is not really invisible, but a special treatment of the bomber, so that radar and other detection equipment can not detect, it is equivalent to stealth.

The U.S. stealth fighter mainly uses two technologies.

First, the appearance design, the stealth fighter shape adopts a smooth concave design, and the radar signal cannot be reflected at all on the smooth fuselage. And the other end of the radar can get the detection data, which is strange.

B-2 body paint

The second is due to a special coating, which is coated with special non-metallic materials on the fuselage of stealth fighters. This special material is divided into two types, namely the resonant type and the wideband type.

The resonant type is mainly based on magnetic materials, and once the radar signal is sent, the material directly absorbs it completely, and does not give the opportunity to reflect the signal at all.

The wideband type can make the aircraft signal reach the same frequency as the radar, which is equivalent to assimilating the detection signal.

Once the two paints are on, it is difficult for radar to detect stealth fighters. Moreover, on this basis, the United States has also minimized engine noise and strived to prevent fighters from being artificially discovered.

The United States has noted even the time of opening the cabin to drop bombs, and they have continuously improved their technology and tried to reduce the opening time, so that it is almost perfect to avoid any possibility that can be discovered.

After figuring out the principle of stealth fighters, Wu Jianqi also began to study the new radar.

2. Test the sword long air earthquake in all directions

The US military's B-2 stealth bomber is technologically advanced, directly ahead of the world for decades, the technology can not be perfectly imitated by the country, coupled with the limited radar technology at that time, the US military's stealth fighter is to do whatever it wants, and the countries of the world can not take it.

Just when everyone was helpless, Wu Jianqi began a study that surprised him.

In response to the operating principle of the stealth fighter, Wu Jianqi noticed the mipo radar. The STEALTH FIGHTER OF THE UNITED STATES IS INVISIBLE BECAUSE IT HAS AN STEALTH BAND, AND THE MIBO RADAR HAPPENS TO BE THE OPPONENT OF THAT BAND.

Why? The meter-wave radar is a long-wave, it can avoid the stealth band of the stealth fighter, so that it can successfully detect the location of the stealth fighter.

Sounds simple, doesn't it? Of course, things will not be so simple, if the mipo radar can restrain the stealth fighter, then the countries that have been devastated by the US stealth fighter will not be helpless.

In theory, the meter wave radar can restrain stealth fighters, but in practice, the meter wave radar is not good at all. Traditional mipo radar has always had a problem that people criticize, that is, it is large, poorly maneuverable, and very bulky.

Mibo Radar is equivalent to an old man, although he can deter his little son, but his legs and feet are inconvenient, and he can't catch up with the little son, let alone catch up with the little son and beat him violently.

Faced with such a dilemma, Wu Jianqi took the side of the sword and prepared to update the traditional mipo radar, that is, to achieve a three-coordinate mipo radar.

New meter-wave radar

The traditional meter-wave radar has only two coordinates, and can only detect the direction and distance, so that even if it can detect the "little son", but where the specific "little son" ran, it can not immediately capture.

If you add a function to it, plus the technology of detecting height, so that as soon as the "little son" appears, he can immediately and accurately capture it, thus guiding the missile to accurately control the enemy.

The theory sounds great, but it's easy to achieve three coordinates!

The first difficulty is that the design and manufacture of new radars are very difficult, and how to apply the envisaged functions to the actual situation is a difficult problem.

Secondly, the financial problem is prominent. Around 2000, China was in full swing, and there was little to be allocated to the plan. To this end, Wu Jianqi has also paid for it out of his own pocket.

In the end, Wu Jianqi took a new path, so there was no experience of his predecessors to learn from. At that time, the most advanced meter-wave radar used a multi-beam phase sweeping system, and Wu Jianqi decided to use DBF, that is, a digital beamforming system.

In this way, the difficulty of development was increased again, but even so, Wu Jianqi did not retreat at all.

Wu Jianqi is experimenting

The test sites for radar detection are often set in remote fields, where the climatic conditions are naturally needless to say, and the written word "hardship" cannot be summarized at all.

Coupled with the need for flight tests, Wu Jianqi paid not only sweat, but even said that his life was in danger.

Wu Jianqi worked day and night, often forgot to eat in order to develop, after thousands of days and nights, finally in 2003, a new mipo radar came out!

The new meter-wave radar not only has maneuverability, but also enables 360-degree rotation.

In 2003, Wu Jianqi appeared as an Asian scientist at the opening ceremony of the International Radar Conference, and after reporting on the research process of the new radar, it aroused strong concern from all walks of life.

However, at this time, the "younger son" did not realize that his "old father" had been reformed and was on his way to arrest him.

After the development of the new mibo radar, Wu Jianqi did not slacken off, and he knew that the new equipment still had many loopholes that needed to be improved. After receiving attention from all sides, he continued to devote himself to the improvement work.

In 2012, Wu Jianqi completed the first-level design and finalization of the anti-stealth meter wave radar, and the new meter wave radar began to be put into formal use in China.

Anti-stealth radar

Of course, in these more than ten years, the "little son" has also made rapid progress, and the United States and Boeing have jointly developed and invested a lot of money to develop a mature version of the "little son" - the world's best comprehensive performance F-22 stealth fighter.

Will the full-fledged version of the "little son" be the opponent of the new Mipo Radar?

Three swords grind for a long time and finally come out of the sheath

It is a pity that the F-22, the world's first stealth fighter built by the US military at great expense, is not an opponent of the "old man" Mipo radar.

After the transformation of Wu Jianqi, the "old man" has long been different from the past. And the U.S. fighter over there, the stealthy "little son," didn't believe in that until 2013.

In 2013, the U.S. side sent a mature version of the "little son" that hovered over the South China Sea in an attempt to provoke the majesty of the updated version of the "old man."

Relieved, the "old man's" new mipo radar quickly detected the "little son" and launched a repulsion signal to it. At first, the Us side did not believe that in order to confirm whether the new mipo radar developed by China was as powerful as rumored, they repeatedly sent stealth fighters to the mainland to test.

F-22 fighter

Unfortunately, the behavior of the US side is tantamount to testing on the brink of danger. No matter how they tried, without exception, they were quickly detected by the mainland's new meter-wave radar.

At this moment, the arrogance of the US side was finally extinguished, and they did not dare to imagine that the old radar technology abandoned by them for many years could actually detect their new stealth fighter.

In order to break through the mainland's new radar detection technology, the U.S. government has also allocated 2 billion yuan for the improvement of anti-radar technology for fighters. Of course, with the support of huge funds, they have also made some progress, but they have never been able to break the mainland's new meter-wave radar detection technology.

On September 3, 2015, at the military parade commemorating the 70th anniversary of the victory of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, the world's first 305A mobile three-coordinate radar using the DBF system developed by Wu Jianqi's team was inspected by the party and the people of the whole country in Tiananmen Square. Obviously, this is a heavy stroke in the history of mainland radar and another major historical progress on the mainland.

What kind of legendary past does this hero Wu Jianqi, who broke the "invisible myth" of the US military and made the "ghost in the air" invisible, have?

In the summer of 1966, Wu Jianqi was born in Yibin, Sichuan. His military father gave him a name, "Sword Banner", holding a sword to protect the red flag. The meaning could not be more obvious, he hoped that Wu Jianqi could sharpen himself into a sharp sword, and use the sharp cold glow to deter the jackals who were staring at the tiger.

And Wu Jianqi also lived up to expectations, under the influence of his patriotic military father, he set a lofty dream from a young age, that is, to be a scientist useful to the country!

When he was a child, Wu Jianqi showed a different intelligence from ordinary people, and his memory was outstanding. In their envious eyes, he was admitted to Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics with the top three results in the Luzhou City College Entrance Examination and entered the Department of Radio Engineering.

After graduating from the bachelor's degree, Wu Jianqi was admitted to the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China to pursue a master's degree, majoring in electromagnetic field and microwave technology.

After graduating with a master's degree, he successfully entered the 38th Research Institute of China Electronics Technology Group Corporation.

In fact, as early as the 1991 Gulf War, Wu Jianqi realized the horror of stealth fighters, that is, from that time on, he had the idea of developing a new type of radar.

At that time, most of the researchers' focus was on microwave radar, but he had a clear goal, and if he wanted to crack the bomber's stealth technique, he had to follow the modification of the miwave radar.

From 1991 to 2012, Wu Jianqi was 25 to 46 years old, from Shaohua Fengmao to two sideburns, Wu Jianqi dedicated all 21 years of his life to the radar cause, which poured all his youth and blood.

Young Wu Jianqi

Even so, Wu Jianqi never complained, engaged in the radar cause, and contributed his strength to the construction of the motherland, as if it were his mission. He has been standing in his post for decades, and even though the new radar technology has won awards from all walks of life, he has never stopped the pace of continuing research.

In April 2017, Wu Jianqi was shortlisted for the 2017 academician co-election of the Chinese Academy of Engineering.

In November 2020, he was awarded the title of National Advanced Worker in 2020.

On November 18, 2021, Wu Jianqi was elected as an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering.
