Located at the outlet of The Datengxia Gorge, the largest and longest gorge in Guangxi, the Datengxia Water Conservancy Hub controls 56.4% of the area of the Xijiang River basin and 56% of the water resources of the Xijiang River. As a landmark project of 172 major water conservancy projects identified by the State Council, it integrates comprehensive benefits such as flood control, shipping, power generation, water resource allocation, irrigation, etc., and is a key controlling water conservancy hub in the Pearl River Basin, known as the "Three Gorges Project" on the Pearl River.

"The Datengxia Fish Breeding Station is the largest breeding station in the Pearl River system. Since the construction and operation of the Datengxia Water Conservancy Hub will cause barriers and habitat changes to the fish in the Hongshui River, in order to protect the integrity of the aquatic ecosystem and aquatic biodiversity of the Redwater River, the construction of fish channels and fish breeding stations can alleviate the impact of the dam on the fish. According to Li Yin, the main function of the Datengxia breeding station is to increase and release rare protection, endemic fish and some economic fish in the Hongshui River, with a design annual stocking scale of 3.58 million fish, including eight species and four large fish of spotted carp, long-rumped fish, curly-mouthed fish, silver carp, yellow-tailed carp, red-eyed trout, triangular bream, light barbed bream. Among them, the spotted bird is a national second-level protected animal, and the curly-mouthed fish and the long-rumped fish are endemic to the Pearl River water system, and are also the fish that focus on the fish breeding technology of The Dayengxia Station. Laibin Breeding Station is an ecological compensation measure for the autonomous region-level nature reserve of rare fish in the Laibin section of Hongshui River, and the main breeding and stocking fish are rare and endemic fish in Hongshui River such as Wuyuan carp and long-rumped fish, with a design annual release scale of 340,000 fish. At present, the two breeding stations have made breakthroughs in the artificial breeding technology of 6 species of fish, such as Ubahara carp, multi-line pannel and yellowtail carp.

On May 22 this year, Guigang City, Guangxi Province, held the "International Day of Biodiversity" theme fish breeding and stocking activity at the Datengxia Water Conservancy Hub Project, and 700,000 "four big fish" fry were stocked on the spot. In addition, the Datengxia Water Conservancy Hub Project also built "five artificial habitats", that is, 4 artificial fish nests, which are located in the Dabu of the Hongshui River, under the dam of the LuoqingJiangkou Power Station, the downstream of the Luoqingjiang Estuary of the Liujiang River and the Dongta River section, and 1 artificial spawning ground, located in the Stingzitan spawning ground. The implementation of the "Five Artificial Habitats" can meet the spawning needs of most fish in the river section.

The total investment of the Datengxia Water Conservancy Hub Project under construction is 35.736 billion yuan, with a total construction period of 9 years, and it is expected to be completed in December 2023.
