The Salamander is an aquatic-friendly creature in my world. If you're lucky enough to find it, you'll have a chance to get it, but that's limited to some common species. So the question is, how do you breed Salamanders in Minecraft to get all kinds of Salamanders? Let me answer this question for you. From the food they eat to building a home for them, you'll learn everything.
1. Find the Salamander
Salamanders are aquatic creatures that can survive on land and in the water, just like frogs. They do not attack the player. But with the exception of frogs, dolphins, turtles, and other Salamanders, they are hostile to most aquatic creatures and attack, dealing 4 health damage with each attack.
In version 1.17, you can find it in marine biomes, but it is not easy to catch and reproduce in the ocean. In versions 1.18 and later, the Salamander spawned only in the lush Cave biome.
In addition to the lush caves that you usually happen to find during your mining explorations, you can also look for rhododendron trees on the ground, and there are usually lush caves underneath the rhododendron trees. Even so, rhododendron trees are not easy to find, which can take a lot of work, and many players find them in jungles and forests. Before we can breed salamanders, we need to find at least two. Due to their rarity, this task may take some time.
2. Capture the Salamander
Once you find the Salamander, you only need a bucket of water to catch it. Just take the bucket and point to it and right-click or use the auxiliary action keys (see GIF below).
It is placed in barrels and turned into transportable "Salamander Barrels". You can then keep it in your backpack and release it with the right button when you want to release the salamander. At least two Salamanders need to be caught to breed them in My World.
3. Tame the Salamander
Technically, you can't tame the Salamander in My World. However, you can use buckets to catch and carry Salamander. Alternatively, you can also tie them up with a leash.
If you have salamander food in your hand, it will follow you wherever you go. However, staying away from water for long periods of time can cause them fatal damage. So, whatever you want to keep them, make sure the Salamander is in the water.
4. What the Salamander eats
Like any other creature in my world, the Salamander depends on food to enter a reproductive state. But they rely on eating tropical fish. And surprisingly, you can't feed them directly dead fish, you have to feed live fish.
Salamanders only eat live tropical fish in buckets. Therefore, you first need to catch tropical fish and then feed them to the Salamander. But you can't just throw tropical fish into the pool to feed, the Salamander will attack and kill them. They don't eat those tropical fish, you need to take the tropical fish bucket directly to the Salamander and right-click to feed.
Get tropical fish
Tropical fish are the most common species in the game, and they have a high spawn rate in large naturally occurring rivers and oceans.
As for the catch part, you can use a fishing rod. Or, you make a boat and head to the middle of the ocean, using a bucket to find and catch them (see GIF above). If you don't like water, make sure to make a potion for underwater breathing beforehand.
5. Create a place for the breeding of salamander
Now that you have salamanders and their food, you need to establish their breeding areas. To do this, make sure you have:
- At least two barrels of tropical fish
- 3×3 block area filled with water
- Two Salamanders
- Trap them with blocks (preferably glass for easy observation)
You can change the area according to your personal preference. Follow these steps to make a breeding area for salamanders.
1. First, make a 2-block wall around 3 × 3 blocks. You can use glass to more easily observe salamanders.
2. Then, cover the roof of the structure to protect the Salamander from hostile mobs and lightning. You can also add a trapdoor in order to place and feed the Salamander.
3. Finally, fill the entire structure with water. It is best done from the inside.
6. Breeding Salamander
Everything is ready, and it's time to start breeding Salamanders. Follow these steps:
1. First place two Salamanders in the breeding area. Make sure they can't escape.
2. Then, feed each salamander one tropical fish in 2 tropical fish buckets.
3. Finally, all you need to do is wait. In less than 1 minute, you will find a baby salamander swimming next to its parents in a cage.
Things to remember
Once you have bred the salamander for the first time, keep these characteristics in mind before repeating this process:
- Breeding of salamanders has a cooldown of 5 minutes in Java Edition and 1 minute in Bedrock Edition.
- The baby salamander takes 20 minutes to grow. As you grow up, you can use them to breed more Salamanders.
- If you want to speed up the growth of juvenile salamanders, you can feed a few buckets of tropical fish.
How to get the rare Blue Salamander
Usually, the young Salamander randomly inherits the color of one of its parents. Even if you don't have the rare blue Salamander, other colors of Salamander can give birth to blue toddlers. However, the chance of producing a rare blue salamander variant is very low.
According to Minecraft Wiki, you have about 1 in 1200 chances of getting the Blue Salamander. Disappointing, isn't it? Unfortunately, the "1200" is more numerous than the number of Salamanders in the real world. As a result, My World is using its platform to promote the endangerment of salamander as a species.
If you are familiar with Minecraft commands, you can use commands to summon the blue Salamander. But first, you need to enable cheating in the game. Then enter the following command:
