Empress Dowager Taizong of Tang bore Li Shimin three sons: Li Chengqian, Li Tai, and Li Zhi.

Among the several brothers, Li Tai, the King of Wei, was talented and very intelligent, and thus gained the favor of Li Shimin of Tang Taizong.

According to the royal rules at that time, the kings could not stay in the capital for a long time when they grew up, but Tang Taizong liked this son too much and specially allowed him to stay in the capital.

Li Tai, the king of Wei, was very fond of literature, and Tang Taizong asked Li Tai to set up a literature museum in his mansion and let him freely organize the scholars.

Li Tai began editing the famous Chronicle of The Lands in the twelfth year of Zhenguan (638 AD), which was successfully completed in the fifteenth year of Zhenguan (641 AD).

At that time, Li Tai, the King of Wei, was a very famous calligrapher and connoisseur of calligraphy and painting, and Li Shimin's favor for him was far above that of the crown prince Li Chengqian.

Just as the so-called Gain Yu Si was destroyed by Si, so was Li Tai, the King of Wei.

With the favor of Emperor Taizong of Tang and Li Shimin's own outstanding talent, Li Tai was not satisfied with the king of the domain, and tried to replace the crown prince Li Chengqian and replace him, constantly giving Li Chengqian a secret trip.

In the seventeenth year of Zhenguan (643 AD), the crown prince Li Chengqian colluded with the generals Hou Junji, Zhao Jie, Du He, the princess of Chengyang, and Li Yuanchang, the king of Han, to rebel, intending to follow Li Shimin's example in that year.

Li Shimin, who had come from the Xuanwumen Rebellion, had long been aware of the incident of the crown prince Li Chengqian's rebellion against the palace, and Li Chengqian's rebellion ended in failure.

After this incident, Li Chengqian's crown prince could not be sustained, and was deposed by Emperor Taizong of Tang and Li Shimin, and sent an army to Qianzhou. Hou Junji, Du He, Zhao Jie, and others who participated in the rebellion were all executed by Tang Taizong.

At the same time as deposing the crown prince Li Chengqian, Li Tai the Prince of Wei was also deposed by Li Shimin, demoting Li Tai from the King of Wei to the King of Shunyang Commandery and placing him in Yunxiang County, Junzhou.

Why did Li Shimin depose his favorite son, Li Tai the Prince of Wei? It is precisely because the crown prince Li Chengqian's plot against Li Tai, the king of Wei, cannot be freed from it, and if it were not for Li Tai, the king of Wei, who "plotted against him", Li Chengqian would not necessarily rebel.

After the rebellion of the crown prince Li Chengqian, Tang Taizong Li Shimin believed that if Li Tai, the King of Wei, who participated in the "conspiracy" to inherit the throne, it was very likely that Li Chengqian would not be allowed, which was also one of the main reasons for abolishing Li Tai's title of King of Wei at the same time.

Tang Taizong Li Shimin believed that only by letting Li Zhi be his successor could Li Chengqian and Li Tai be saved at the same time.

In order to preserve his three sons at the same time, Emperor Taizong of Tang took pains to depose Li Chengqian, the prince of Wei, and establish Li Zhi as crown prince.

Li Tai probably wouldn't have dreamed that he had worked hard to drive Li Chengqian down, and he had also been deposed, and the dream of the former crown prince was now shattered.
