So today, let's briefly understand the legendary life of the legendary Mr. Chang.

01

Forever Dunhuang Maiden

Mr. Chang's father, known as the "patron saint of Dunhuang" - Mr. Chang Shuhong, Mr. Chang Lao left his family to dedicate his life to Dunhuang art, and his story was put on the stage of CCTV's "National Treasure":

If Mr. Chang Lao did not return to China; if Mr. Chang Lao did not go to Dunhuang after he returned to China; if Mr. Chang Lao did not stay there after he went to Dunhuang, if... Then today's artistic achievements of Mr. Chang Lao will be far higher than many of the masters we are familiar with today, but the Mogao Grottoes we can see today will be much less.

He chose to dedicate himself to Dunhuang and took his wife and daughter to Dunhuang. Began a series of protective measures such as sand clearing, numbering, planting trees, and organizing personnel to copy murals. But in 1945, his wife, overwhelmed by this misery, chose to leave, and published a newspaper announcing her divorce. At this time, Mr. Chang, who was only 14 years old, took on the heavy responsibility of taking care of Mr. Chang and his brother and supported the family. A little girl born in France, who came to Dunhuang in the desert, could only eat with salt and vinegar every day (the local alkaline was large), and could imagine that she had made a great contribution to the protection of mr. Chang Lao's devoteself to the protection of the Mogao Grottoes.

At this time, although Mr. Chang could not continue his studies, he studied art history with Dong Xiwen and went to the cave to copy the murals. At the beginning, these murals copied by the Dunhuang Research Institute had a huge impact on the exhibition in the mainland, and Chang Kaishen of the "logistics company" said that he was good when he saw it, and by the way, he wanted to log it to Taiwan. However, after Mr. Chang Lao refused, he smuggled the copies of these murals back to the Dunhuang Research Institute and preserved a large number of original materials. In the 1950s, these copies were exhibited in the Forbidden City and achieved great success, and were selected as the title of the "Great Motherland" series of stamps issued by the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications.

Master of architectural decorators

That exhibition not only allowed the Dunhuang murals to come to the world, but also allowed Mr. Chang to be included in mr. Lin Huiyin to study architectural decoration. Integrate the traditional ornamentation of his murals in Dunhuang into the architecture of the new era.

He has been involved in the design of numerous architectural ornaments, including the following on the stamps:

Immortal legend

Changlao has not only achieved great results in architectural decoration, but also made great explorations in the process of integrating traditional culture into modern life. The first national silk scarf in New China came from his men:

In 1952, the first Asian and Pacific Regional Peace Conference was held in Beijing, which was the first international conference held on the mainland after the founding of New China, and under the personal guidance of Lin Huiyin, the 21-year-old Chang Shana designed this "Peace Dove" silk scarf for the conference, which was the first silk scarf of New China. Many years later, in his memoirs, he described the design as "The silk turban I designed was in the form of a dunhuang Sui Dynasty grotto algae well, interspersed with a peace dove pattern, which was made under the guidance of Mr. Lin, and I remember that she said: 'If you look at Picasso's peace dove, you can use the form of a pigeon on the algae well.' As soon as she said it, I had Reiki and immediately designed it. It is both Dunhuang style and modern, and our design is quite satisfactory to Mr. Lin.

In addition to this national scarf and the emblem of the Communist Youth League, there is also a well-known sculpture, also designed by Mr. Chang, that is, Hong Kong's "forever blooming bauhinia flowers":

By the way, a more interesting thing, this set of "centennial" stamp design work, in addition to Mr. Chang, there is also Zhang Lei, who participated in the design of the regional emblem and regional flag of the Macao Special Administrative Region. The rest of the one, I don't know if the two have a chance to catch up.

Mr. Chang, who is over 90 years old, designed this set of stamps, like an old man with a smile on his head, reading the ups and downs of nearly a hundred years, witnessing the most dangerous time of this nation, gradually becoming rich and strong, and finally handing over the heavy responsibility of national cultural rejuvenation to the next generation.
