How hard do poker circles work? Fight to the extreme to create Guinness

May Day, also international labor day, the pioneer of the communist movement Li Dazhao once said:

"I think that the best way to have fun in life is to respect labor. All happiness can be obtained by labor, and all suffering can be liberated by labor. ”

For many people, this life is a life of continuous labor, only labor, their own life can have a little hope, and those very hard days are like a bright light, can help illuminate the way forward.

Among the first-line players in the poker circle, many players have reached the top level, and it is also a process of continuous labor, even people like Phil Ivey, who are regarded by many players as the G.O.A.T. of the poker circle, have experienced the kind of days that have been working at the table from 6 p.m. to 7 a.m. the next morning.

In fact, there is no shortage of desperate sanlang in this line, and some of these sanlangs have also fought to the extreme, so extreme that they can even set world records, such as the following ones

☆ Maximum play time holder ☆

During the WSOP in 2010, Phil Laak (20 years + card age, offline high table celebrity, the game income of more than 2.5 million knives) played cash in the Paragon Poker Room for five consecutive days, from the beginning of the table to the departure of the table, he played a total of 115 hours, and 130,000 viewers witnessed the birth of this Guinness record in the official website live broadcast.

Laak held the record for 11 years until it was broken by a player named ZachGensler last November.

Gensler is a painter and plays cards as a hobby, and he feels that he is particularly capable of "boiling eagles", so he began to train purposefully in 19 years.

After nearly two years of preparation and inquiries about the Guinness Book of Laws official record-breaking matters, Gensler embarked on a record-breaking journey at 3 p.m. on October 27 last year.

From the time he took the table until 7 p.m. on November 1, after playing for 124 hours, Gensler chose to leave the table, setting a new record for the longest play time at the table.

But while Gensler broke Laak's record for game length, he failed to be as profitable as Laak was when he left the table. Gensler, who played the 124-hour card, broke the record but lost 1200 knives, while Laak won nearly 7000 oceans in 10 years.

After the event, Gensler was interviewed by the media to ask about his motivation for deciding to break the record, saying that he had loved the game since learning to play poker, and that the game helped him through many unhappy moments, so he wanted to do something to make himself famous in the history of the game.

☆ 8 hours maximum hand holder ☆

In addition to the above two players who broke guinness, former PS pro team member Chinese player Randy "nanonoko" Lew (10 years of age+, game income of more than 5 million knives) also set a record 10 years ago.

The challenge was played during the PCA on January 8, 2012, when he started at 1 p.m. and played until 9 p.m., with Randy not eating at all, not going to the bathroom, and opening a minimum of 25 tables and a maximum of 40.

At the end of the challenge, Randy played a total of 24,493 hands, an average of about 2963 hands per hour, about 48 lots per minute, and finally made a profit of 7.65 knives, thus setting a record of "playing the most hands in 8 hours while still maintaining profitability".

☆ 1 hour to participate in the maximum SNG holder ☆

Randy wasn't the only Guinness PS pro, another pro set a world record in April 2009.

The player is French professional Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier (17 years old, the tournament revenue exceeds 16 million knives).

On April 28 of that year, Elky flew from Vegas to Monaco, and without much preparation, he began his challenge in full view of the EPT Finals Day1A on the 29th.

The challenge time is 1 hour, and in this 60 minutes, Elky completed a total of 62 extremely fast SNG buying 6.5 knives, with a total of 403 knives bought, a total of 426.67 winnings, and a profit of 23.67 knives.

Elky used a total of 4 monitors during the challenge, and at the beginning he was very confident and signed up for 40 SNG games at the same time, but gradually the speed could not keep up, because once the game entered the short table, the pace would be fast, so there was often a timeout to leave the table, so he lost a lot of SNG.

In fact, elky was still in a loss-making state with only the last SNG left, and unless he won the championship, the challenge could only be declared a failure.

Luckily, Elky broke into the head-to-head, beating his opponent's 98 with 75 in the final hand to win the championship and complete the challenge.

Since then, no one has broken Elky's record of 62 SNG in one hour and ending up in profit.

☆ Longest event holder ☆

The holder of this record is not a single person, but a race.

On December 11-15, 2013, APT held a tour in Manila, and one of the tournaments in the schedule was prepared to compete for the new Guinness Book of Records, the "Ironman Challenge".

The "IronMan Challenge" was held at 8 p.m. on the 13th, buying 700 knives, and there could not be any agreement on the prize money between the players who broke into the final table, no matter how many people participated in the game, it had to be played from the first second of the start until the end of the championship, without any rest in the process.

A total of 115 "Iron Men" signed up for the race, and the challenge finally set a new record with a duration of 48 hours, 55 minutes and 58.5 seconds, becoming the new longest-running event holder.

The winner of that tournament was American player Damon Shulenberge, who said in an interview after winning the championship: "I have never had this experience in my life, I am actually an entertainment player, usually playing cards is for fun, I have not even stayed up all night to play cards before, let alone this kind of continuous playing for two days!" At 8 o'clock on the 13th, I registered for the competition on time, and I did not close my eyes for two days and two nights since I was on the table, and the time from the table was never more than 5 minutes, so it was nearly 50 hours of continuous play before it ended! ”

Of course, as ordinary players, it is difficult for us to have the opportunity to fight like the players in the text to create Guinness, but in any case, as long as we work hard, even if this effort is small, multiplying it by 365 will become obvious, can make us a little closer to our goal, maybe this goal is not a heroic strategy, it is just to pay the various bills in daily life, or purely to play cards to have fun, but as long as we are willing to pay for it, no matter what the goal is, the effort will not be disappointed after all
