Vittorio Matteo Corcos (1859 - 1933)

A beautiful stranger in the paintings of Italian artist Vittorio Matteo Corcos.

The artist Vittorio Matteo Corcos was born in Livorno (Italy) in October 1859 and at the age of eleven he entered the Enrico Pallastrini class at the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence. After graduating from the Academy, from 1878 to 1879 he lived and worked in Naples, studying painting at the painting studio of Domenico Morelli.

In 1880, Vittorio Matteo Corcos moved to Paris, where he soon signed a 15-year contract with the Goupil Art Studio. In Paris, the artist painted portraits, female figures and customary scenes from the lives of Parisians. From 1881 to 1886, the artist was regularly exhibited at the Salon.

Returning to Florence from Paris, Vittorio Mateo Corcos married The beautiful Emma Chabati, Rotigliano's widow, who soon introduced her new husband to florentine high society. Soon, Corcus was overwhelmed by orders from the Italian nobility and the Bohemians. In 1904, the artist received several large orders from dignified men in Germany, Austria, and Portugal.

Vittorio Matteo Corcos died in Florence in November 1933.
