This unique house is designed for a small entrepreneurial family with creative thinking. In addition to running a thriving business, the client is also a poet, while his son is an avid wildlife photographer. Minimalist material palettes of concrete, natural stone and teak provide a modest interior base for gorgeous Indian elements and art.

As the plot faces southwest, the exterior of the savage style house had to be shaped to protect its interior from the scorching sun and heat.

A bold red sculpture pulls the focal point near the back door of the home, contrasting with the green landscape. To prevent the building envelope from appearing too large and disproportionate to the main volume of the dwelling, the protruding shells were cut and staggered.

The sloping silhouette of the canopy gives the structure a visually light effect while achieving deep shadows on the windows.

Terraces of various sizes are located under the canopy to benefit from blissful shade, most of which are characterized by lush greenery and flowers. The simple entrance is located under a concrete canopy. It has a three-meter-high door that pulls outward and is embedded in the stone. The entrance door welcomes guests into an impressive long aisle with living space on the left and a waiting foyer on the right.

The deep overhang not only protects the windows from direct sunlight, but also protects the façade from increased heat.

The concrete walls of the house are textured with wood, providing an additional visual interest without compromising the authenticity of the material.

Inside and out, it features uplifting colors and a freshness of plant life. Since the region has a predominantly arid climate, the terraces facing southwest have chosen drought-tolerant plants. These hardy specimens also encourage beautiful butterflies and hummingbirds to flood into the terraces outside, creating a wonderful biodiversity.

When we moved into the home, we found a magnificent double-height living room. The slab concrete continues to share the texture here and provides a cool grey background for the warmth of the rich teak furniture. The living space is concentrated on the garden to establish a consistent connection with nature.

The extremely decorative and the simplicity of the Brutalist concrete structure form a striking contradiction. The opening overlooks the large living room below, creating a close connection between the two floors of the residence.

The complexity of the design is complemented by traditional carved artwork on the other side of the room. Many of the ornaments in the home are recycled from old Havilis, mandapas and containers, infusing the home with authentic Indian essence.

The skylights of the two stairwells are greeted by sunlight all day long. One is a linear slit-like opening close to the wall, and the other is a glare-free roof lantern. Dramatic lighting games fall on textured concrete, creating a dynamic environment.

Upstairs, wildlife photography brings color and life to the main bedroom design. Restricted material palettes of concrete, sandstone, kota stone and teak continue to be used in the bedroom space to ensure calm cohesion throughout the interior.

The teak platform bed features a floating headboard design that makes the floor space look clean and tidy. The high-gloss stone floor tiles reflect the contours of the furniture, creating a fantastic hydrating effect. Nice plantation welcome owners outside on the shaded terrace.
