Nicaragua "unveiled", the United States "back garden" on fire?

author:Professor Liu Yong

Nicaragua, a small central American country, recently publicly announced its withdrawal from the Us-led Organization of American States and angrily denounced the United States as "Yankee imperialism."

After the incident, including Venezuela, Cuba and other American countries, immediately expressed their support. The United States, on the other hand, came forward to rebuke Nicaragua for directly shutting down the office of the Organization of American States in Nicaragua before it had completed the "withdrawal" procedure, calling it "illegal."

Frankly speaking, Nicaragua's announcement of its withdrawal from the Organization of American States is almost tantamount to openly turning its face to the United States. Under such circumstances, the United States is still entangled in the "face-turning procedure," which is somewhat irritated and angry.

So why can the United States instigate the Russo-Ukrainian War in Europe and make a mess of the whole of Europe, but in the Americas, there is no good way to take a small country like Nicaragua and Venezuela?

First of all, it is necessary to explain what Nicaragua's outrage against "Yankee imperialism" in the United States really means. The meaning of imperialism in this word is known to everyone. The so-called "Yankees" is actually a proper noun when Latin American countries scold the United States, which probably means "Yankee".

This was originally the word used by the Southern Army to curse the Northern Army during the American Civil War, but later the United States was unified, and in fact the Northern Coalition army won. Some of the more stubborn Southern plantation owners ran to Latin American countries.

The word "Yankees" thus spread to Latin America. Whenever Latin American countries feel that they have been treated unfairly by the United States, they denounce them as "Yankee imperialism."

Why, then, does Nicaragua call the United States "Yankee imperialism"? In fact, this is related to the "Monroe Doctrine" policy that the United States has been pursuing.

Monroe Doctrine, born in the early 19th century, openly preached that the Americas were the Americas of the Americans and did not allow other Western powers to intervene, but in fact it regarded the entire Americas as the United States' own "back garden" and "concession colony".

After entering the modern era, the kind of armed colonialism pursued by Western countries has gradually lost its market, and the United States has continued to poison Latin America in the form of economic colonization and cultural colonization. A resource country with huge oil reserves, such as Venezuela, nicaragua, which has obvious geographical advantages and good agricultural conditions, could have taken advantage of its geographical advantages to develop its economy and live a better life.

However, due to the manipulation and control of the Americans, these countries have been politically turbulent and have a weak industrialization foundation, and have served as a raw material base and a dumping market for goods in the United States for nearly 200 years.

In this context, it is easy to understand that Latin American countries are resisting the imperialist style of the United States. The Organization of American States, which Nicaragua withdrew from this time, was established in 1890, and its ostensible charter was to strengthen economic ties between American countries and resolve contradictions and disputes between American countries, but in fact it was a tool for the United States to control, influence, and monitor Latin American countries.

Nicaragua's withdrawal from the organization was the first step towards ridding itself of U.S. influence.

Finally, why is it that the United States is almost able to call the wind and rain in Europe, the Middle East, and even Asia, but in The United States, South America, more and more small countries dare to stand up against the United States?

The reason for this is more complex, and in general, can be understood from two aspects:

The first is the international environment. Over the years, with the rise of China, the world pattern has begun to change. In this Russo-Ukrainian war, Russia sounded the clarion call against the United States. It has greatly encouraged the courage of small and medium-sized countries around the world that have long been dissatisfied with the hegemonic rule of the United States to resist the United States.

Latin American countries are undoubtedly the first countries in the world to be oppressed by the United States, and they are also the first countries to be economically exploited by the United States. Where there is oppression, there is resistance, including Venezuela, Nicaragua and other countries, the resistance to the United States has actually begun a long time ago, but it has been catalyzed and completely explicit by the Russian-Ukrainian war.

From the standpoint of the United States, if you look at it from the perspective of economic strength, military strength, and even international influence, the United States is of course far superior to these Latin American countries. After all, most of the Central American and Southern American countries, even Afghanistan, Iran do not have the strength.

But they have an advantage that small and medium-sized countries in other regions do not have, and that is close proximity to the United States. After the end of the Cold War, an important reason why the United States was able to act recklessly around the world was that the United States was in a remote corner, and even if it completely messed up the Eurasian continent, it would not affect the United States.

But Nicaragua, Mexico, and even other American countries are on the edge of the United States. Completely messing up these countries, "gushing out" millions of refugees, with their heels can think of definitely affecting the United States.

Coupled with the fact that these countries are generally relatively poor and have no interests for the United States to loot, if the United States spends a lot of effort to target these countries, it will inevitably be the result of insufficient income. Therefore, although the United States is also angry at the resistance of Latin American countries, it has not used various means without scruples like it did against Iran, Afghanistan, and Russia.

In the more than 200 years since the founding of the People's Republic of China, the foundation of the rise of the United States lies in the Americas, in these Latin American countries. Now that even the countries of the Americas have begun to openly oppose the United States, how long can its hegemony be maintained?
