Although Harry Maguire is United captain, new manager Eric Ten Haag may be ready to cash out as the club plans to rebuild in the summer and the centre-back fail to meet expectations. In August 2019, Maguire joined the Red Devils from Leicester City for £80 million, becoming the most expensive defender in history, but if that means the team hasn't changed anything in the backline, the club can accept to sell it for around half the price.

Chelsea

Chelsea currently have a transfer ban due to boss Abramovich, but once the new boss takes over, the club is expected to have a new transfer plan and they will clearly need a centre-back, with Rudiger and Christensen set to leave freely this summer, possibly heading to Real Madrid and Barcelona respectively. Maguire has also excelled in the three-back system, playing at left centre-back when he helped England reach euro 2020 final, while he could complement Thiago Silva's lack of fitness at the heart of the Blues' defence. With Trevo Chaloba thriving on the other side, Chelsea will look able to secure the defence.

Tottenham

Tottenham is another suitable club that can both afford Ande Maguire and need him. Tottenham is unlikely to sign Maguire for £40m, and if someone bids to buy Harry Kane, chairman Daniel Levy could loosen his wallet further – though that could depend on City missing Haaland. Conte, another coach who prefers a three-back, has played at four only once since taking over nuno in North London last November – losing 2-0 to Chelsea. Ben Davis has always been his top choice for left centre-back, but Maguire could offer better physicality in this position.

Leicester City

Leicester City's modus operandi is usually to buy low and sell high. Think Mahrez (signed for £450,000 and sold to Manchester City for £60m) or Kante (signed for £5.6 million and sold to Chelsea for £32m) – or Maguire himself, who was acquired for £12m two years before moving to Manchester United. In this case, the club and players may be tempted to reunite. Maguire arguably played his best football in Leicester City, entering England for the first time at Fox City, where Leicester has climbed to 15th in the Deloitte Football Wealth Rankings. Returning Maguire at half price will not hurt the club's finances and will help them perform in the new season.

Paris Saint-Germain

But what if Maguire wants to try to leave England? Paris Saint-Germain could be an option. Obviously, the French overlords will have enough budget to achieve this goal, but are they willing? Quite possibly. While Marquinhos remains a world-class centre-back, Ramos has played just 10 games in all competitions due to injury since he arrived here from Real Madrid in the summer, with only six of them starting. If Paris Saint-Germain stops in time, Maguire will have room. The Briton is still the top centre-back, but the pace of the Ligue 1 game may also suit him as he looks to regain confidence.

Barcelona

Recently former Premier League stars Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Ferran Torres have both found their best form in Barcelona, and despite their very poor financial situation, they managed to find enough budget for these transfers. Araujo is Barca's undisputed number one centre-back and he and Maguire could be a good combination. It's a bit of an unexpected choice, but never underestimate the price and effort catalonias are willing to pay to get back to the top.
