【Scientific and technological talents】Hu Guanjiu: the "most beautiful environmental protection person" who works in a down-to-earth manner

author:Jiangsu Association for Science and Technology

From an ordinary analyst to a top expert in monitoring and analysis, Hu Guanjiu, station manager of Taihu Lake Water Quality Monitoring Center in Jiangsu Province and deputy secretary of the Party Committee of Jiangsu Environmental Monitoring Center, has been deeply engaged in the field of environmental monitoring for nearly 30 years, and has won many honorary titles such as "National Advanced Worker", "Jiangsu May Day Labor Medal", "National Environmental Protection System Advanced Individual", "National March 8th Red Flag Bearer", and "Most Beautiful Scientific and Technological Worker" in Jiangsu Province in 2019.

"In fact, I am the most ordinary person, doing the most basic work, I think that doing my job well can contribute to ecological civilization." Although she is full of honors, she is humble and low-key, and always does her "old business" with concentration, concentration and professionalism. Recently, the reporter met the "most beautiful environmental protection person" at the Jiangsu Provincial Environmental Monitoring Center.

【Scientific and technological talents】Hu Guanjiu: the "most beautiful environmental protection person" who works in a down-to-earth manner

"My data stands the test"

Hu Guanjiu was thin, not tall, spoke crisply and neatly, and always smiled. Underneath the seemingly weak exterior, there is a great deal of energy.

In 1993, after graduating from the Department of Chemistry of Nanjing University, Hu Guanjiu took root in the Provincial Environmental Monitoring Center and gradually grew from an ordinary technician to an expert in the field of environmental monitoring in the country.

"Environmental monitoring is to engage in laboratory testing, test various environmental media, such as water, air, soil samples, analyze what pollutants are inside, how much concentration, what is the harm, if it exceeds the limit value, we must remind the relevant departments to take relevant measures to reduce emissions or source treatment." Hu Guanjiu told reporters that the environmental monitoring profession is an industry that produces data, and the data obtained is used for the government's environmental management decisions, and the data cannot be falsified. "Fake data is scarier than no data at all." She said that data must be true, accurate, comprehensive, and at the same time fast and new, which is a basic requirement.

"Even if you are in a hurry, the sample testing must be done in accordance with the national standard method without fail, and I have always told the young people in the studio that making accurate data is for your professional dignity, and you must have the courage to say: My data can stand the test." Hu Guanjiu told reporters that it is actually a common thing to be questioned, but if you take every job seriously, there will be no problem. "We often say that we should be confident in life, but in fact, we do the same thing. Environmental monitoring should be full of self-confidence, and your self-confidence also comes from your knowledge. ”

Professional and confident environmental "detective"

With such professional confidence, Hu Guanjiu also helped the public security organs crack a case of illegal dumping of pollutants. "Sometimes we are like detectives, trying to find out the 'real culprit' of pollution from the clues." In 2014, the water of the new Tongyang Canal appeared to smell strangely, and millions of people were in a hurry to drink water. Law enforcement departments suspect that there are factories that emit aniline-type substances, and hu Guanjiu has determined that the "culprit" of pollution is diethyl disulfide after multiple tests. Locals thought she "must have made a mistake, there was no such thing as a nearby factory." But Hu Guanjiu is very confident about the test data. The public security organs used this as a clue to intervene in the investigation, and sure enough, in the hidden compartment of a suspicious ship on the canal, they found a pungent-smelling colorless liquid, which was detected as diethyl disulfide.

Of course, behind self-confidence is unremitting efforts and efforts. Along the way, Hu Guanjiu has never relaxed the study and study of environmental monitoring scientific expertise, presided over and participated in more than 20 major projects at or above the provincial and ministerial levels, published more than 90 papers, won more than 10 scientific research awards such as the National Environmental Protection Science and Technology Award and the Jiangsu Provincial Science and Technology Progress Award; a number of academic monographs written by her have become the national blueprints in this field; under her leadership, the Provincial Environmental Monitoring Center took the lead in forming 109 full analysis capabilities of surface water in the country in 2003 In 2011, the National Key Laboratory of Monitoring and Analysis of Environmental Protection Surface Water Environmental Organic Pollutants was built, and the level of organic monitoring and analysis entered the forefront of the national environmental monitoring system, which made important contributions to the leapfrog development of Jiangsu Environmental Monitoring Center in the field of professional technology.

In recent years, in response to the odor disturbance, Hu Guanjiu led the team to comprehensively develop artificial sniffing, precision instrument analysis and other technologies, accurately determine the nature and source of odor, and provide technical support for strengthening control; the team also carried out research on new pollutants monitoring and investigation in the environment of Jiangsu Province, pollution traceability and other research around new pollutants. "New pollutants are not a fixed class of substances, in different eras its scope may be different, we are constantly exploring, so that more pollutants can be monitored." Hu Guanjiu said.

The front line of the charge is plain and steady

To find out the "culprit" of the pollution incident, it is not only professional, but also to endure loneliness and work overtime to wait next to the experimental table. But Hu Guanjiu enjoyed it, "I think it's quite interesting to be able to analyze accurately." At the same time, we have also been doing scientific research, forward-looking testing, and it is also interesting to explore different things. ”

In recent years, almost every major environmental incident emergency response work on the mainland has been carried out by Hu Guanjiu.

When a water pollution incident occurred in the Songhua River, she led the team to the bank of the Songhua River, which was frozen for thousands of miles, and guarded the "national gate" day and night; in the Wenchuan earthquake, she led the team to advance into the front line of earthquake relief and disaster relief, so that the people in the disaster area could "drink clean water"; when the Zhenjiang section of the main stream of the Yangtze River was suddenly invaded by phenol pollutants, resulting in a crisis in the drinking water of Zhenjiang residents, she led the emergency response team to quickly lock in the "culprit of the accident".

"Scared?" "In fact, when I arrived at the scene, I was not afraid, there were too many things too urgent, and I had more responsibility in my heart." Hu Guanjiu said that the on-site sampling of emergency accidents is sometimes quite complicated, first of all, to protect themselves, and then to measure the sample accurately, while the waste liquid can not cause pollution, "in fact, the most important thing is to accurately report the data, because the follow-up environmental pollution disposal is waiting for data, once the error, may affect the lives of thousands of people." ”

Hu Guanjiu told reporters that when the Wenchuan earthquake occurred, the emergency monitoring vehicle drove for several days before arriving in Deyang, Sichuan. Deyang aftershocks continued, and they lived in tents in the open stadium, as well as in the labs. The temperature at noon is as high as forty or fifty degrees, and sometimes the smell of solvent extraction is very large, and if ventilation is needed, it can only be done under the scorching sun outside the tent. In order not to cause trouble for the locals, the team basically eats the instant noodles and eight treasure porridge they brought with them every day. What they remember vividly is that a local uncle who picked up mineral water bottles knew that they were serving the disaster area, and secretly put a large pocket of steamed buns outside the monitoring team's tent one morning. "At that time, many stores were not open, and it was likely that he made it himself, and he was particularly touched." Hu Guanjiu said.

In the eyes of ordinary people, these are difficult and dangerous things, but Hu Guanjiu feels that all this is very ordinary, and she laughs and calls herself "A Q spirit". She had a lot to learn when she first started working, and she was happy to learn more; during the epidemic, she didn't let her take public transportation, so she rode half an hour to work as a workout. Meticulous in her work, she seems to be able to put everything else down.

"This is also the wealth of life, you don't experience these will not appreciate the life in that situation, the locals in the disaster area are still planting when it is time to plant seedlings, I think in fact, people's survival adaptability is very strong." I think it's good to cherish the opportunity to be uneventful right now and do your job in peacetime. Hu Guanjiu said. (Ge Sijia)
