From the design point of view, the Xianma XF 850W power supply is actually the black diamond 850W white version, but it is not only the shell painted white, but very carefully the fan, output interface, switch, module interface and even the standard AC power cord are changed to white, the screws used are also used uniformly plated silver screws, it can be said that the white is quite thorough.

In terms of basic specifications, the Xianma XF 850W adopts a single +12V output design, the rated current of +12V output is 70A, equivalent to 840W power, +5V and +3.3V are rotated out of +12V through DC-DC, the output rated current is 20A, the combined output power is 100W, and +5V standby supports 3A current output.

The power supply adopts the 12025 specification FDB dynamic pressure bearing fan for heat dissipation, the fan supports intelligent shutdown technology, in the case of low internal temperature of the power supply, the fan will automatically stop to achieve the effect of zero noise operation. The player can also switch back to the regular temperature control mode through a separate switch, at which time the power supply fan will not stop, but the speed will be adjusted according to the temperature inside the power supply to achieve a balance between the heat dissipation effect and the silence effect.

The module interface of the power supply is roughly divided into three groups, the combination of 10 + 18pin is used to expand the main power supply of 24pin, the 5 8pin interfaces are used to expand the CPU power supply interface and the PCI-E power supply interface, and the 4 6pin interfaces are used to expand the D-type 4pin and SATA power supply interfaces. The cooling fan used in the XF 850W power supply is from POWERYEAR, the model is PY-1225L12S, the specification is DC12V/0.2A, the FDB dynamic hydraulic bearing is adopted, the nominal maximum speed is 2000RPM±10%, and the 2pin power supply interface can be changed to regulate the speed by changing the input voltage.

The internal layout of the XF 850W power supply is the same as that of the Black Diamond series, using the self-created active PFC + LLC full-bridge resonance + synchronous rectification + DC-DC architecture, because the power supply length is 14cm, so the components are arranged more tightly and the space utilization rate is relatively high.

The EMI of the power supply is divided into two parts, the first level EMI uses a separate PCB, arranged on the AC input socket, with 1 X capacitor, 1 group of Y capacitors and 1 common mode coil; the second level EMI is on the main PCB, with 2 X capacitors, 2 pairs of Y capacitors and 1 common mode coil, NTC and MOV are complete, of which NTC is located next to the main capacitor, equipped with independent relays.

The power supply is equipped with a fully enclosed PFC inductor, the two rectifier bridges share a heat sink, but the specific model can not be observed; the PFC switch and the PFC diode share another heat sink, of which the PFC switch is two OSG60R180FF (600V/12.5A@100°C/150mΩ), and the PFC diode is G4S06506AT (650V/6A@127°C). The PFC master is CM6500UNX, which is configured on a separate PCB next to the primary side.

The four main switch tubes are arranged on a single in-line PCB, and the MosFETs are OSG65R380KF (650V/7A@100°C/350mΩ). The upper part of the PCB has been opened and extended, which can play an auxiliary role in heat dissipation.

+12V synchronous rectification of The MosFET is arranged on the front of the main PCB, using a solid capacitor for filtering, MosFET has a total of 4, fairing tube and freelance tube 2 each, the surface labeled model is 014N04A, there is no detailed public information, it is speculated that the basic specifications and BSC014N04LS (40V/100A@100°C/1.4mΩ) are similar, heat dissipation is carried out by the metal sheet next to it, and the corresponding position on the back of the main PCB is pasted with thermal paste, Heat can be directed to the power supply housing for heat dissipation.

The +5V and +3.3V power supply adopts DC-DC design, the main controller is APW7159C, MosFET has 4, each is configured with 2, the model is FTG018N03S, but there is no specific specification disclosed, the metal sheet behind it can play an auxiliary heat dissipation role, located in front of the DC-DC module is llLC resonant master CM6901T6X.

Load balancing

We will evaluate the 230V input load balancing test and ripple test at 120% of the rated power of the power supply of 1000W (including 1000W), the results of this test are not included in the calculation of the super energy index, but are simply used to observe the power margin of the power supply. Cooling fan speed

Xianma XF 850W power supply supports fan intelligent start and stop function, the fan will automatically stop in the case of low temperature and low load, and can also be switched to the conventional temperature control mode through independent switch. After our test, in the fan intelligent start-stop mode, the power supply can maintain the state of fan shutdown in most working hours, until the output power reaches 650W after the fan really starts to run, the starting speed is about 850RPM, when fully loaded to reach the level of 1400RPM, the noise is relatively slight, and there is basically no impact on the actual use experience.

It is worth noting that in fact, starting from the output of 500W, the fan of the XF 850W power supply has already shown signs of rotation, but at this time the temperature inside the power supply should be exactly at the critical point of starting the fan, so the fan begins to rotate for less than 10 seconds, the internal temperature of the power supply will drop below the critical point, the fan will enter the stopping state, 10 seconds to 20 seconds and then it will start to rotate, so the repeated state is to continue until the power output reaches 650W, and the fan really enters the state of continuous operation. During this time, we cannot determine the specific speed of the fan.

In the conventional temperature control mode, the power supply fan will maintain rotation, and the speed will gradually increase with the increase of output power, but it needs to be more obvious after the output power exceeds 300W, and the full load is also at the level of 1400RPM, and the entire operation process is quite quiet. Therefore, if the player cares more about the cooling efficiency of the power supply, using the conventional temperature control mode is also a good choice.

Voltage stability

The output voltage of the Xianma XF 850W power supply is very stable, of which the voltage deviation of +12V and +5V does not exceed 1%, and the voltage deviation of +3.3V output is not more than 2%; the performance of the adjustment rate is more prominent, and the three outputs can be maintained within 1%, which is indeed very good.

Output ripple

Ripple and noise is the AC component of the DC output of the power supply, if observed with the oscilloscope, you will see the voltage up and down slight fluctuations, like water ripples, so it is called ripple. According to Intel ATX12V 2.52 regulations, the output ripple of +12V, +5V, and +3.3V and Vp-p (peak-to-peak) of noise shall not exceed 120mV, 50mV, and 50mV, respectively. We use a digital oscilloscope to measure the output ripple at full power supply load and overload to 120% power at the measurement point of the fixture board at the measurement point of the fixture board at 20MHz analog bandwidth according to Intel specifications, using the ripple peak-to-peak at low frequencies as the scoring reference.

It is worth noting that we did not copy the design specifications as they were, but only selected the four test points that are of practical significance, namely the four points of the lower left, upper left, upper right and lower right corners of the cross-load frame.

The meaning of these four points is as follows:

Lower left corner (A point): the minimum load of the whole machine;

Upper left corner (B point): the maximum load of the auxiliary circuit, the minimum load of 12V, such as the case of multiple mechanical hard disks starting at the same time;

Upper right corner (C point): maximum load of auxiliary circuit, full load of the whole machine;

Lower right corner (D point): 12V maximum load, auxiliary minimum load, such as running 3D games with a single SSD;

The X coordinate of the test point represents the total output power of +12V, and the Y coordinate represents the sum of the output power of +5V and +3.3V.

The cross-load test is consistent with the previous uniform load test, the less the voltage deviation from the rating, the better, and the allowable value of each deviation rate is ±5%.

Hold time

Hold-up Time refers to the 5% of the time allowed for the voltage output value to fall out of the range after the power is powered down, and we measure the hold time of +12V, +5V, and Power-OK (Power-Good) signals.

The output voltage hold time requirement in the SSI EPS12V 2.92 server power supply design guide is that the power supply should be greater than 18ms at 75% load, while the power-OK signal hold time requirement is greater than 17ms.

Power-OK to maintain 17ms means that the computer can continue to run without shutting down and restarting when facing a power failure within 17ms, and the voltage is maintained at 18ms or longer in order to make emergency treatment when the hardware can make emergency treatment when the power failure occurs, such as the head homing of the mechanical hard disk and the power loss protection of the SSD.

The hold time of the XF 850W power supply was measured at 75% load (DC output 637.5W).
