In order to implement the Opinions of the State Council on the Implementation of the Healthy China Action, promote the implementation of the "Healthy China Action (2019-2030)" tobacco control action, implement the specific requirements of the "Notice on Further Strengthening the Tobacco Control Work of Adolescents" of eight ministries and commissions such as the National Health Commission, the Central Propaganda Department, and the Ministry of Education, effectively do a good job in youth tobacco control work, and build a safety barrier for the growth of adolescents, on the eve of the 35th World No Tobacco Day in 2022, the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, On April 22, 2022, the China Association for Tobacco Control officially launched the "Smoke-free Culture, Youth Peers - Healthy China Action Tobacco Control Action College Students Science Debate Conference". Guided by the Healthy China Action Tobacco Control Action Working Group, the Department of Physical Health and Art Education of the Ministry of Education, and supported by the World Health Organization Representative Office in China, the event set up two sub-venues in Beijing and Xi'an, and 24 universities across the country, including Peking University and Tsinghua University, participated in the debate conference.
Xiao Lin, a researcher at the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention and deputy director of the Tobacco Control Office, said at the kick-off meeting that she hopes that through this activity, young people will be scientifically guided to establish a good health concept, firmly establish the concept of "being the first responsible person for health", and improve the awareness of young people about the harm of tobacco. At the same time, it also hopes to attract more young people to pay attention to tobacco control, support tobacco control, actively join the team of tobacco control volunteers, exert their influence to protect their own health and the health of those around them, and take the initiative to assume the social responsibility of shaping a "smoke-free culture".
Liao Wenke, president of the China Association for Smoking Control, announced the rules of the debate conference at the meeting. Xiao Lin, researcher of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention and deputy director of the Tobacco Control Office, and Gao Yulian, vice president of the China Association for Smoking Control, conducted a debate group lottery ceremony on behalf of the organizers. Sun Jiani, technical officer of tobacco control at the World Health Organization in China, delivered a message on tobacco control. It is hoped that through this debate, more people will pay attention to tobacco control among adolescents, protect young people from traditional tobacco products and electronic cigarettes, and make unremitting efforts to improve public health and help achieve a healthy China.
