Remedios Varo is a Spanish female artist, born in 1908 and died in 1963. Her complex paintings can be interpreted as a retrospective of the classics of modern art, a supernatural naturalism with resounding echoes of the "weird fiction" subtype initiated by HP Lovecraft. The rigor of her exquisite work, which references the geometric structure of the classic Renaissance artists, contrasts with disturbing imagery that permeates the boundaries of each painting and needs to be opened with several keywords at the same time: literary, dreamy, surreal, architectural, and especially esoteric.
Perhaps most important of Remedios Varo's work is the search for the mystical experience of creating orderly contact in the natural world. Kabbalah, alchemy, tarot cards, and magic accompany the precise and fantastic representation of planets, landscapes, laboratory instruments, birds, plants, insects, and other creatures. The year 1957 belongs to her final creative period, the artist as the mythical character of "Creator of the World", she is the creator of a magic system that opens and closes.

Varo, a Spanish refugee who created less than 200 paintings in her short life, has long been considered a national treasure of Mexico, where she settled during World War II. Her elaborate works, often allegorical, are filled with many fantasy figures: an owl-like woman wielding a starlight prism to create birds, a man riding a beard like a bicycle, a woman throwing a man's head into a well to leave the psychologist's office, a vegetarian vampire.
