National Rose (Monthly Season) Selection, full name All-America Rose Selections, referred to as AARS, is customary to translate as "National American Rose Selection". Founded in 1939, it is a non-profit organization founded by the American Monthly Quarter Industry to introduce and promote high-quality varieties.

AARS is the Oscar of the monthly season, and the winning varieties are not only the representative of the monthly season of American home gardening, but also its prestige has broken national borders, and its standards of excellence are widely recognized and respected around the world.

The establishment of AARS

In 1938, the founder of AARS, W. Hastings, was founded. Ray Hastings had an in-depth conversation with J&P President Charles Perkins to come up with the idea of a monthly testing program that quickly resonated with the industry.

On January 8, 1939, seventeen leading representatives from within the industry held a delegate meeting in Chicago, the outcome of which was the establishment of the non-profit organization All-America Rose Selections, Inc. (AARS), whose goal is to evaluate and promote high-quality monthly seasons, and those outstanding new varieties of the monthly season will be awarded the AARS Honorary Award and can display the AARS logo in their labels and catalogs.

Testing and selection

Monthly breeders can select one or more new varieties to AARS for testing. Selected varieties are planted in AARS officially designated test gardens throughout the United States that represent climates (usually universities and monthly bases across the United States), and will be observed after two years of evaluation.

The evaluation criteria include the color, fragrance, flower type, leaf, habit, vitality, disease resistance, re-flowering, anti-aging, novelty and growth ability in a variety of climatic conditions.

However, after the end of the testing period, the symbols awarded the AARS award accounted for only about 4% of all the tested varieties...

The first testing of the AARS began in 1939 and was conducted in officially designated gardens throughout the United States. In 1940, AARS announced the first winners.

Most AARS monthly seasons have excellent garden performance, and for more than 70 years, AARS has become an important pre-sales guide for the American monthly season, providing full protection for American gardeners.

The birth of a new plan

In 2013, Francis Meon of the HT Month Season, selected by Meon International, was awarded the AARS Award, which was also the last month of the award. AARS was discontinued in 2013 and replaced by the new American Garden Rose Selection (AGRS) program in 2016.
