Recently, the topic of #mistakenly eating Fushou snail as a field snail or causing death has been on the hot search, and incidents of tragedy caused by mistakenly eating Fushou snail often occur.

Beijing Fushouluo Incident:
In 2016, a 34-year-old man in Beijing was diagnosed with eosinophilia meningitis after developing shoulder pain, neck stiffness and headache, nausea and other symptoms. In a short time, more than 100 people were diagnosed with such symptoms. According to the survey, most people have eaten cold mixed Fushou snails in restaurants.
In August of the same year, the Beijing Municipal Center for Disease Control and Prevention also randomly inspected 97 fushou snails from the city's major aquatic markets, of which 9 snails were found to have the larvae stage 1 or 2 of Guangzhou tube strong nematode.
Fushou snail miscarriage incident:
In 2017, a girl accidentally ate the Fushou snail at a food stall during her honeymoon, causing the parasite to invade the brain and forced to miscarry after ineffective treatment.
Summer is the season to eat "snails", many food stalls, barbecue stalls will sell a variety of snail-related dishes, such as small stir-fried field snails, spicy stir-fried flower snails and so on. However, many people will mistake fushou snails for field snails, resulting in tragedy. The textured snail is even more terrifying than the Fushou snail!
How harmful is Fushou snail? Why is the snail so terrible that it must not be eaten! In this article, we will talk about them.
1. A fushou snail has a thousand worms
Fushou snail is also called apple snail because its English name is Apple snail, which is also a bit like an apple in appearance, with a short cone shape.

Fushou snail was introduced to the mainland in 1980 with the aim of being cultivated as an aquatic economic creature and as a high-protein economic animal. Later, because of the bad taste and poor market, it was thrown into the wild, but what I did not expect was that the breeding ability of Fushou snail was too strong, and it flooded in a short period of time, and spread to most of China in a few decades. [1]
An adult female Fushou snail lays more than 325,000 eggs a year, shock it!
They have a very bad impact on the environment, not only eating rice, but also their excrement can also pollute the water quality.
In 2003, the former State Environmental Protection Administration listed Fushou snail as one of the major dangerous agricultural invasive alien organisms and included it in the List of The First Invasive Alien Species in China.
Fushou snails often parasitize Guangzhou tube roundworms, and the number can be as many as 6,000! After eating the fushou snail containing this parasite, people will damage the nervous system, develop meningitis, and die in severe cases.

If you love this stuff, be sure to cook it thoroughly! It's best not to eat for safety reasons, the key is that it's really not delicious!
Not to mention, the eggs of Fushou snails are really good-looking.

3. Do not eat snails
Although Fushou snail may parasitize Guangzhou tube roundworm, it can still be eaten if it is fully heated and cooked. But the snails can't be eaten, and they must not be eaten!

Weave snail is one of the common snail species along the coast, also commonly known as snail, white snail, wheat snail, the taste is more delicious, better than Fushou snail. However, incidents of poisoning by edible snails occur from time to time, and the onset of disease is rapid and severe, and death will occur.
In July 2021, residents of Wenzhou City, Zhejiang Province, poisoned 21 people and died of ineffective rescue due to eating snails sold in farmers' markets.
It is tetrodotoxin and paralytic betoxin that poison the inhabitants, which have similar symptoms of poisoning.
The laboratory selected a patient's leftover texture snail for testing, and the results showed that the tetrodotoxin content reached 10.3 mg/kg, which is about 200 times the limit of tetrodotoxin in the weave screw (normal less than 0.05 mg/kg). It also exceeds the paralyzing shellfish toxin content in fresh shellfish in the United States and Canada (normally less than 0.8mg/kg). [3]
On 20 July 2012, the Ministry of Health issued a notice prohibiting the sale and consumption of textured snails.
In fact, the snail itself is not toxic, and the cause of its toxin formation may be through the accumulation of toxins in the body through the food chain.
For example, eating poisonous algae will enrich paralyzing shellfish toxin; eating puffer fish will enrich tetrodotoxin, and puffer fish meat is a particular favorite food of snails. [4]
Tetrodotoxin is very heat-resistant, heating at 100 °C for 4h, 115 °C for 3h to destroy the toxin, 120 °C heating for 30min, 200 °C above 10min, can also make its toxicity completely destroyed. However, the cooking heating of the general home has little effect on tetrodotoxin and cannot destroy the toxin. [5]
Tetrodotoxin poisoning occurs rapidly and with severe symptoms, usually with discomfort within 10 to 45 minutes of consumption and death within 4 to 8 hours.
Paralytic shellfish toxin is extremely toxic, acid-resistant, heat-resistant, there is no specific antidote, after poisoning will produce numbness, and accompanied by headache, convulsions, paralysis, shock and other neurotoxic symptoms of the appearance, severe cases will also cause paralysis of the respiratory system. [6]
If the intake of paralytic shellfish toxin is not large, the numbness of the poisoned person generally subsides after 24 hours, and the body can recover after 48 hours.
Therefore, for safety reasons, snails must not be eaten!
summary:
Many people are looking forward to the summer is coming, the street barbecue stalls, food stalls are gradually hot, foodies can be careful, do not eat in order to satisfy the appetite!
In addition, any animal food should not be eaten raw, such as drunken shrimp, drunken crab, sashimi is not recommended, aquatic plant water chestnut, lotus root, diamond horn can not be eaten raw!
