NGC-certified German New Guinea gold coins will be unveiled at the Thai Star Auction

At the Tokyo Coin Auction in April 2022, several rare coins certified by NGC from Japan and other countries will be in the spotlight.

Numismatic Guaranty Company (NGC) certified rare coins from various countries will be unveiled at the 2022 Tokyo Coin Auction, jointly organized by Japan's Taisei Auction house and the Royal Mint. The live auction will open on April 29, 2022 in Tokyo, Japan.

One of the stunning lots was a 10 mark German New Guinea 1895 Bird of Paradise Gold Coin, rated NGC PF 65 Cameo (Lot No. 642). The obverse of the coin, a local symbolic bird of paradise, is certified by NGC as belonging to the Paramount Collection and has a starting price of 8 million yen (about $64,700).

Belonged to the Paramount Old Collection

Another noteworthy lot at this auction is a silver sample of the Japanese Meiji III (1870) "Flying Dragon Rising Sun", graded NGC Proof AU Details (lot number 70), with a starting price of 5 million yen (about 40,400 US dollars). At that time, Japan purchased decommissioned equipment from the Hong Kong Mint, thereby establishing its first modern mint in Osaka, and minted the coin two years later. The Meiji government of Japan officially adopted yen as a monetary unit in June 1871.
