2022 Resurrection Night Chios Rocket Wars Video
On resurrection night, Holy Saturday night, thousands of improvised rockets (improvised rockets made from nitro, sulfur and gunpowder) were launched between Panagia Ereithiani and Agios Markos, two churches on the island of Chios. The distance between the two churches is 400 metres.
According to tradition, on Easter Day, the "hostile" staff of the two parishes began a procession together in the coastal area of the small town of Vrontados on the island of Chios, and then moved separately to reach their "battle positions" separately.
At 8 p.m., after all the rocket launchers had been installed, the staff of both sides conducted a test firing on the bell tower of the other parish to ensure that the rocket did not hit the houses in the middle of the two churches.
As soon as the bell rang at 11 p.m., the first large-scale "rocket battle" officially began. An hour later, the rocket and countless brilliant fireworks together conveyed the happy message of the Lord's resurrection to the people.
Such a lively and exciting and meaningful activity, if you have the opportunity, you must go to the scene to experience it for yourself. (Wu Qin)
