Ancient Lion Button Chapter Furong Stone Liao Deliang (1945-)

This is the only Taiwanese sculptor in the "Boulder Chenghuai" collection---- Mr. Liao Deliang. He is mainly based on button carving, and is quite famous in the field of Golden Stone calligraphy and painting in Taiwan, and the literati circle calls him "Liao Yi Dao". He has been engaged in button carving for fifty years, carving buttons in 6,000 squares, and has both quality, which is the first person in Taiwan and probably the last person. I have a lot of liao knife teacher's button in my hand, and recently I have found more than a dozen parties, because it is relatively easy to buy teacher Liao's button in Taiwan, so I have bought a lot of it as a seal carving and gift to friends. The works given to me by the two famous Taiwanese seal engravers who befriended me were also mostly based on the "one knife button" as the carrier. Since the printing button and stone carving are study playthings for me, some of the shapes are exquisite and elegant, and some are simple and clumsy, the focus is that the temperament of the work cannot be sweet and vulgar, the so-called "the shape is not correct, the morality of the imperfection is not cured", therefore, the button carving of a knife, although it is rarely exquisitely carved, even has a humble meaning, but it is still a style that I can accept.
An in-depth analysis of Liao's knife button carving shows that he does not belong to the "original" writer, and his modeling style mainly comes from old workers. Several of Mr. Liao's most popular modeling paradigms: ancient beast button, horse button, and lotus button, are all based on qinggong objects. A knife draws nourishment from these classic button styles, and does not escape from the paradigm and seeks change. Although it is not yet a new realm of Ligu, at least it has become a style. Those who are interested in Liao's works can refer to the two books "Liao Deliang's Ink Button Collection" (Taipei HuiFeng Tang, 2001) and "Yinhai Boyi" (Collector's Art Family Company, 2004). Liao Yidao's works have not been hyped as "famous artists" in the mainland, and I also bought several of his old works from Taiwanese collectors last year, which are also old prices, as gifts to the literati, and the recipients like it.
This ancient lion button shape originated from Qing Gong, and was once seen in single chapters and chapters, which is a very successful shape. As far as I can see, Liao Yidao was the first person to copy this type of button, and later I also saw pan Jingshi, Yao Zhongda and other sculptors carved it, and its prototype is the same. Compared with the original button, the knife consciously increases the taste of "force and abundant muscles", the twist angle of the body increases, and the muscles at the humerus and front leg are also relatively full. In addition, the face is also accentuated by lines, hoping to make the spirit of the ancient lion more imposing. The tail opening is the original old button, a knife and strengthened the decoration, I think it is full of good looks, there is a high-shot photo below to see the details.
The comparison and evaluation of the shape, friends can see for themselves. Ancient beasts have always been the most important button type, and I have said several times before that the shape of any ancient beast, no matter how complex or simple, and whether the line decoration is rich or not, its most basic body structure is to include the head, neck, body, limbs and feet. If the structure of the body is held back, the posture cannot come out, and it cannot move, let alone the momentum. Once the structure runs away, no matter how many muscle lines are highlighted, it is only an absurd combination of meat balls, and it cannot really show a sense of strength.
