"The Tale of the West Chamber", alias: "Cui Yingying Waiting for the Moon in the West Chamber", a total of five books of twenty-one folds and five wedges, about 50,000 words, is a yuan miscellaneous drama created by Wang Shifu in the Yuan Dynasty, and is called "Six Talents Book" together with "Zhuangzi", "Departure from Sorrow", "History", "Du Gongbu Collection", and "Water Margin".
"The Tale of the West Chamber" and Guan Hanqing's "Baiyue Pavilion", Bai Pu's "Wall Head Horse", and Zheng Guangzu's "Qiannu Leaving the Soul" are collectively known as the four major love dramas of Yuanqu.
Most of the meta-dramas are a four-fold and one-wedge, Wang Shifu is too capable of writing, this "West Chamber" has five books of twenty-one folds and five wedges, and one top five.
The first Zhang Junrui dojo
Cui Yingying's father, Cui Xiangguo, has just died, and the mother and daughter are preparing to send Cui Xiangguo's coffin back to their hometown, passing by the Universal Salvation Temple and temporarily staying. Zhang Sheng went to Beijing to take the exam, and also passed by the Universal Salvation Temple, so he went into the temple to play, saw Cui Yingying, fell in love at first sight, and decided to stay, looking for an opportunity to be close to the warbler set. The next day, Zhang Sheng saw the warbler's red lady and introduced himself to the red lady. The Red Lady told Miss Yingying about the incident and found that the young lady seemed to have a good feeling for Zhang Sheng.
The second book is the Night Listening to the Piano
Sun Feihu, a general with heavy troops, knew that the warblers were beautiful and wanted to rob the warblers as his wife, so he led his troops to surround the Universal Salvation Temple. In a hurry, Old Lady Cui promised that whoever could relieve the siege of the Temple of Universal Salvation would marry the warbler to whom. Zhang Sheng listened and thought that Heaven would help me. So he immediately repaired a letter and asked people to give it to his good friend Du Qi, the white horse general. Du Qi saw the letter and immediately led his army to come and capture Sun Feihu. Zhang Sheng then happily waited for the old lady to marry the warbler to himself. Unexpectedly, Mrs. Cui said, "Young man, do a beautiful job, I will let you and yingying become brothers and sisters." "Brother and sister? What's going on? Isn't it marriage? The old woman is playing with Laipi! At this time, even the Red Lady couldn't look at it anymore. Therefore, the Red Lady arranged for Zhang Sheng and Yingying to meet in the middle of the night and let Zhang Sheng play the piano as a trumpet.
The third book Zhang Junrui harms Acacia
Zhang Sheng fell ill with lovesickness and was in a trance, and the Red Lady went to visit. Zhang Sheng wrote a letter asking the Red Lady to bring the warblers. Yingying was very happy after receiving the letter, so he replied to a letter and asked Zhang Sheng to meet in a certain place at a certain time. After receiving the reply, Zhang Shengle had all the snot bubbles coming out, and he waited to meet with the warbler. When it was time to meet, the warbler was afraid of being discovered by the old lady, but instead counted Zhang Sheng down: "A big man, who does not sleep in the middle of the night, what is he doing in the courtyard?" Who wants to meet you? Come on people, someone is playing hooligans..." Inexplicably scolded, Zhang was even more sick. At this time, Yingying wrote another letter to Zhang Sheng, reassuring him that she would definitely marry him.
The fourth Materia Medica Shop Dream Warbler
Zhang Sheng and Yingying met again and were privately engaged for life. The old lady did not feel right, so she tortured the red lady. Red Niang said, "At that time, you said that whoever defeated Sun Feihu would marry the young lady to whomever she wanted." Zhang Sheng invited reinforcements, saved the miss, you are good, rebel, let the two become brothers and sisters, you are too untrustworthy to do so. The old lady was speechless, but she didn't want to really marry the warbler to Zhang Sheng, so she gave Zhang Sheng a problem: if you want to marry the warbler, first take the exam! Where is the exam so good? The old lady was too cruel. Zhang Sheng had to grit his teeth and agree, preparing to leave for the capital, and the two shed tears in the Changting Pavilion. Leaving the warbler, Zhang Sheng could not even sleep well, and often dreamed of warblers.
The fifth book Zhang Junruiqing reunion
God is perfect, Zhang Sheng actually won the exam. Seeing that good things were about to happen, Cui Xiangguo's previous doll relative Zheng Heng came to the door. He lied that Zhang Sheng had married the daughter of a high official after winning the title and would not come back, and forced Yingying to fulfill his marriage contract and marry himself. At this moment, Zhang Sheng rushed back, and Zheng Heng's deception was self-defeating. Zhang Sheng and Cui Yingying, lovers, eventually became dependents.
The play is based on a true story. There is a similar story, but the ending is somewhat bleak.
Legend has it that in the late Tang Dynasty, the great poet Yuan Shu and the little girl Cui Xiao of the same village welcomed the green plum bamboo horse, and the two little ones had no guess. When Yuan Shu was eight years old, his father died, and Xiao Ying's family regarded him as a relative. Yuan Shu and Xiao Ying often live in the bamboo forest. As they grew up day by day, their feelings grew deeper and deeper, and they finally made a lifelong engagement.
Later, Yuan Shu took the meritorious name, became an official in the dynasty, and married Wei Cong, the daughter of Crown Prince Shaobao. I have never seen Xiao Ying again in this life. After the early death of Yuan Shu's wife Wei Cong, he returned to his hometown many times to look for Xiao Ying, but after many years, Xiao Ying did not know where to move.
Therefore, Yuan Shu wrote a "Biography of yingying" to commemorate his first love, and "The Tale of the West Chamber" was rewritten based on the "Biography of Yingying".
Marriage in ancient times was basically eight words: the order of the parents, the words of the matchmaker. Who to marry and who to marry has nothing to do with themselves, it is up to their parents to decide according to their family lineage and family lineage. Getting married, gradually finding that the other party and themselves are quite compatible, this is lucky; if the personality and appearance of the two are completely inappropriate, then they can only endure, no one dares not abide by this rule, go to find a boyfriend or girlfriend.
The core idea of Wang Shifu's "West Chamber" is that "lovers will eventually become dependents."
