At the beginning of 1950, the first general ambassador of New China was born, and he was Geng Biao.

Geng Biao was 41 years old at the time, and had previously been the deputy commander and chief of staff of the Second Corps of the North China Military Region (the 19th Corps, Yang Luogeng Corps), and there were very few corps named after the chief in the history of our army, such as Liu Deng's army, Chen Xie's group, and Chen Su's army.

Yang Luogeng's corps is named after Commander Yang Dezhi, Political Commissar Luo Ruiqing, and Deputy Commander's Chief of Staff Geng Biao.

In 1950, 15 ambassadors were appointed, including 5 "civilian" ambassadors represented by Wang Jiaxiang and Yao Zhongming, and 10 "general ambassadors" represented by Geng Biao and Huang Zhen.

For example, Wang Youping, acting director of the Political Department of the Erye Fifth Corps; Yuan Zhongxian, political commissar of the Sanye Eighth Corps; Ji Pengfei, deputy political commissar of the Seventh Corps; Tan Xilin, commander of the 32nd Army; and Han Nianlong, political commissar of the 33rd Army; Cao Xiangren, deputy chief of staff of the Siye Army; Ni Zhiliang, vice president of the Central South Military and Political University; and Peng Mingji, deputy commander of the 13th Corps.

Among these "general ambassadors", Geng Biao, the first to be named by the prime minister, can be described as both civil and military.

Geng Biao during the Red Army period

Speaking of origin, although Geng Biao is also born from a rural bitter child, he is different from "mud legs".

Geng Biao was born in August 1909 from a well-known martial arts family, his father Geng Chunan was a well-known martial arts master in Liling, Hunan, and in his early years as an official, he was almost selected as a palace guard, and was praised by the jianghu as a "double hook hero" because of the tiger head double hook that had been rewarded by Guangxu.

The young Geng Biao was in The Yan Family Chong in Liling, Hunan Province, and was deeply impressed by his father's martial arts true transmission, and he practiced a soft and hard kung fu.

On martial arts, among the senior generals of our army, Geng Biao's martial arts are countable, if not among the best.

When the Red 14th Front army met the division, Geng Biao served as the chief of staff of the Red 4th Army, and the commander was the famous "Shaolin General" Xu Shiyou, who issued a "battle book" to Geng Biao in person, but Geng Biao chose to avoid fighting and take a step back from the sea and the sky for the sake of unity.

In fact, Geng Biao's martial arts were not inferior even compared to those of He Laozong, Xu Haidong, Cheng Jun, Sun Jixian, and others.

Speaking of seniority, Geng Biao went to the lead and zinc mine as a child laborer at the age of 13 and joined the strike movement at the age of 14.

At the age of 16, Geng Biao joined the regiment, joined the guerrilla group at the age of 17, served as a guerrilla leader and joined the organization at the age of 19, and successively served as a staff officer of the 9th Division of the 3rd Army of the 1st Red Army and the Combat Education Section. At the age of 24, he served as the commander of the 4th Regiment of the Red 2nd Division, participated in five anti-encirclement and suppression campaigns, and served as the vanguard of the whole army in the Long March. During the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, he served as chief of staff of the 385th Brigade of the 129th Division, chief of staff of the Left Behind Corps, and chief of staff of the Jin-Cha-Ji Field Army.

Because Geng Biao was strong in martial arts, he fought closely and slashed large knives and led his troops to fight the charge, known as "Geng Mengzi".

Geng Biao during the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression

On the merits of the battle, Geng Biao traveled from the Jiangxi Su Region to northern Shaanxi and from North China to the Pingjin Campaign, and experienced hundreds of battles.

In the bloody battle of the Xiang River during the Long March, Geng Biao led the Red 4 Regiment to cover the command organization across the river, leading a battalion to fight with the enemy army and a regiment, Geng Biao wielded a large knife, led the guards to cut down a platoon of the enemy army, and the blood-stained battle robes could not eat for three days. During the all-out War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, Geng Biao remained in northern Shaanxi. During the liberation period, he served as chief of staff of the Jin-Cha-Ji Field Army and participated in the battles of Zhengtai, Qingfengdian, Shijiazhuang, and Pingjin.

On enlightenment, although Geng Biao is a fierce general, he has a super strong sense of the overall situation and a good sense of obedience.

In September 1937, the Red Army was reorganized into the Eighth Route Army, and Geng Biao, chief of staff of the Fourth Red Army, became chief of staff of the 385th Brigade of the 129th Division.

As the 115th Division and the 120th Division rushed to the anti-Japanese front, Geng Biao also prepared to go to battle to kill the enemy. However, the headquarters issued a paper order, Geng Biao, brigade commander Wang Hongkun, and deputy brigade commander Wang Weizhou led the 385th Brigade Headquarters and the 770th Regiment to stay in Shaanxi, Gansu, and Ningxia. Geng Biao found the division commander Liu Bocheng and the deputy division commander Xu Xiangqian, and the two chiefs patiently did his work, and Geng Biao made up his mind to defend Yan'an.

At the dinner after the establishment of the Left Behind Corps, the chairman told Geng Biao: Birds have nests, hair has cradles, and the revolution must also have a base area.

During the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, Geng Biao's 385th Brigade and Wang Zhen's 358th Brigade made different achievements.

The brigade headquarters of the 385th Brigade of the 129th Division was stationed in Tianjiacheng, Qingyang, Longdong, and Chief of Staff Geng Biao assisted Wang Weizhou, brigade commander and political commissar, in surveying the terrain, and led the troops to dig 119 holes in caves to solve the accommodation problem.

In the struggle against the recalcitrant army, Geng Biao's characteristics of being able to write and fight in literature and martial arts have been brought into full play.

In addition to fighting and labor, in order to protect the crops, Geng Biao also took the initiative to attack the hunting beasts with guns, harvesting tigers, leopards, wolves and foxes, as well as hares, for a month. During the meeting back in Yan'an, Geng Biao also specially brought a "wild game feast" to improve everyone's food.

In terms of learning ability, both General Geng Biao and General's wife Zhao Lanxiang are among the leaders.

Geng Biao's wife, Zhao Lanxiang, was born in 1923 in Qingyang, Gansu, and is also a rare local intellectual woman. The two married at the end of 1940 and have been with them ever since. At the beginning of the founding of the People's Republic of China, after the general ambassadors were selected, the premier sent someone to teach them etiquette, and Sister Deng also gave the ambassador's ladies "opened a small stove" to guide diplomatic etiquette. Geng Biaoyuan was sent to the United Nations military representative, but due to the obstruction of the US side, the trip did not take place.

In September 1950, Geng Biao traveled through Moscow to Sweden and served as Swedish Minister and Ambassador of Denmark and Finland.

Geng Biao was the first ambassador sent by New China to the West, and at the first reception after the presentation of the credentials, more than 500 distinguished guests attended, and a senior Swedish officer learned that Geng Biao had also been a general, so he asked Geng Biao in person: How many soldiers have been brought before?

Geng Biao answered hundreds of thousands of people, and the Swedish officers immediately saluted as soon as they heard it, because there were not so many troops in the whole of Sweden.

However, the heat of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries has not subsided, and an "accident" has occurred in the embassy.

On October 29, King Gustav V of Sweden died of illness, but the condolence letter from the embassy caused an uproar, and Geng Biao, who was preparing to build a Danish pavilion, quickly returned. After investigation, it turned out to be a work negligence, and the "painful" misuse in the condolence letter was "honored". Geng Biao reprinted the letter of condolence and personally sent it to the Swedish Foreign Minister. After review, the other party recognized that this was not diplomatic rudeness, but only a technical error.

One day in 1951, the Israeli ambassador to Sweden took the initiative to visit, which surprised Geng Biao.

At that time, Israel was a "small follower" of the United States and had no diplomatic relations with New China. What is the ulterior motive for nothing to offer?

Geng Biao patiently listened to each other's greetings, and finally understood that the Israeli ambassador to Sweden "did not have anything to climb the Three Treasures Hall" to verify a fact: Geng Biao and Lin Biao are not brothers, who are the two brothers, who is the younger brother?

When Geng Biao listened, the monk Zhang'er was confused, and then he knocked on the side and struck an obedient voice, which was a bit clear: The volunteer army on the 38th line was fighting with the US and Rok coalition forces, and this ambassador was probably here to find out the details, because the West thought that the commander of the volunteer army was Lin Biao.

Geng Biao cried and laughed, so he had to ask the other party, why did he think that he and Lin Biao were brothers?

The Israeli ambassador drew a comparison between the left and the right, and Geng Biao finally understood: because "Biao" and "Biao" are the same pronunciation, foreigners believe that it is the same word, according to the Western name habit of "the name is in the front and the surname is after", since they are both surnamed "Biao" and "Biao", it is not a family.

Geng Biao laughed loudly, and when he came, he simply popularized Chinese knowledge to foreigners: the meaning of the word "Biao" is gale, and the meaning of the word "Biao" is little tiger. The Ambassador of Israel, who had not received any useful information, was embarrassed and hastened to say goodbye.

The defense minister without a military rank geng biao

In 1955, when the title was awarded, Ni Zhiliang, Tan Xilin, Peng Mingji and others returned to work in the army and were awarded lieutenant generals.

However, because Geng Biao had always been on the diplomatic front, he did not participate in the conferring of titles, otherwise he would most likely be awarded the title of general.

Geng Biao has been on the diplomatic front for 20 years, serving as an ambassador in six countries. It was not until 1971 that he was replaced by deputy minister of foreign affairs to minister of external liaison. Ten years later, this general, who had no military rank, became the fifth defense minister of New China after the four marshals Peng, Lin, Ye and Xu.

The following year, Geng Biao led the preparation of the "Anti-Hijacking Police Special Force" and became the "Father of Special Police".

On June 23, 2000, General Geng Biao, who was able to write and fight, ended his legendary life at the age of 91.
