At a time when agricultural production on the mainland has not completely shaken off the "relying on the sky to eat," how to make full use of the existing meteorological conditions to ensure modern agricultural production is a barrier.
Meteorological departments boldly test the waters and develop smart agricultural meteorological services.

The accuracy rate of total grain production forecasting at home and abroad has been steadily improved, maintaining more than 98% and 95% respectively; the basic business capacity of agricultural meteorology has been gradually improved, and 70 agricultural meteorological experimental stations, 653 agricultural meteorological observation stations, and 2175 automatic soil moisture observation stations have formed a network of modern agricultural meteorological observation stations; modern agricultural meteorological service organizations have been efficiently intensive, forming a five-level service pattern of provinces, cities, counties and townships.
The first batch of 10 characteristic agricultural meteorological service centers jointly created with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs have formed a situation of consultation, co-construction and sharing cooperation across departments and regions: apple meteorological service center will make small apples into large industries, tea meteorological service centers will integrate into the industrial chain to add charm to tea fragrance, rubber meteorological service centers will dig deep into the data potential for scientific production... "Picking the big beams" in the grand strategy
Wang Futian, deputy general manager and captain of Bohai Ferry, who has 20 years of sailing experience, recalled that before going to sea in the late 1980s, he would buy the weather forecast of the American "air guide" company once every six hours. After 2014, he chose the domestic "meteorological customization" route forecast, voyage evaluation, follow-up services, etc., which made him more confident along the way.
The ocean is a strategic point for the high-quality development of the mainland economy, and the demand for meteorological services is urgent to promote the innovation of marine meteorological science and technology, serve the strategy of marine power, ensure maritime security and the "Belt and Road" initiative.
From 1984 to 2019, the Central Meteorological Observatory carried out meteorological navigation technology research, signed 48 shipping companies, and almost all over the world's major ports, saving 2500 hours, 2600 tons of fuel consumption for users, and reducing losses of about 4 million yuan.
From the start to the narrowing of the gap, and then to the straight waist board and foreign companies on the same stage, it is inseparable from the planning and deployment of the party group of the China Meteorological Administration for many years, as well as the hard-core technology integrating multi-source data of ocean navigation, route models and algorithms, and decision support for shore-based ocean-going meteorological navigation.
On June 8 and 9, 2021, the China Meteorological Administration signed a cooperation agreement with the Shandong Provincial Government and the Qingdao Municipal Government to jointly build a high-level Qingdao Marine Meteorological Research Institute to build a leading marine meteorological research and development center and marine meteorological equipment industry incubation base with important international influence and popularity in China. Up to now, the continental ocean observation system has been formed, and the typhoon forecasting capacity of the northwest Pacific Ocean has reached the world's advanced level, which can make Chinese contributions to global ocean governance.
In China, the time and space distribution of water resources on the mainland is uneven, the summer flood and winter are dry, the north lacks Nanfeng, and the South-to-North Water Diversion Project is the backbone project for cross-basin and cross-regional allocation of water resources, and more than 40 billion cubic meters of clean water have been distributed from south to north, nourishing the 120 million people along the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei-Lu and other routes.
In March, in Baiyangdian, Liuya new, Dianshui Qingqing, Baoding City, Hebei Province, as one of the beneficiary cities of the South-to-North Water Diversion Project, the local meteorological department laid automatic weather stations and intelligent monitoring probes along the trunk canal to monitor the impact of geological disasters such as flash floods and mudslides on the facilities and water quality of the trunk canal. This super project, from the grand concept to the completion of the main project of the first phase of the eastern and central lines, including the early climate demonstration, migration in the reservoir area, project construction to artificial rain scientific water storage, water quality improvement, and even the construction of ecological civilization along the water source and along the line, meteorological science and technology forces have always run through it, guarding a pool of clear water gushing north.
The high-speed rail, which represents China's cutting-edge manufacturing, makes "mobile China" more dynamic for development and prosperity. The self-built railways have witnessed the achievements of China's high-quality development, and behind them are strong meteorological science and technology support.
China's high-speed rail has "gathered" many of the world's best in response to the complex climate environment, showing a strong new driving force across 5 climate zones.
"The mainland high-speed rail line has reached the 'world's first' in many fields such as 'cold resistance', 'wind resistance', and 'damp and heat resistance'." Du Yanliang, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and vice president of Shijiazhuang Railway University, believes that meteorology guarantees the long-term safe operation of transportation infrastructure in complex environments and accumulates valuable experience for China's high-speed rail "going out".
At every key juncture of scientific progress, the meteorological department can be seen. In recent years, the meteorological department has focused on the development direction of national strategies such as the construction of ecological civilization and the national comprehensive disaster prevention, mitigation and relief, ensuring the implementation of major national strategies and demonstrating China's development potential and creative ability everywhere.
The "service circle" is widely beneficial
"In the past, customers used to call in the middle of the night to ask about the weather, and we would consult the meteorological department again." Lin Yifeng, department manager of Zhejiang Yiwu Yitongou Logistics Co., Ltd., said. Now the customer's appeal has become more clear: "I see a high temperature in a certain place, do I want to adjust the cabinet?" ”
The "logistics meteorological black box" makes Lin Yifeng feel uneasy, he can understand the temperature, humidity, air pressure and other information inside and outside the container in real time, and take corresponding measures, such as high temperature ventilation, low temperature lamination, vibration reinforcement, or apply to the operation department for extension, change the line, etc.
With data support, the local meteorological department has taken this opportunity to develop the "Yixinou" commercial logistics meteorological service system, established the country's first "Belt and Road" commercial and trade meteorological observatory, and provided logistics enterprises with forecast information products such as meteorological reality in major cities along the route and the temperature, precipitation and meteorological suitability index of China-Europe express trains in the next 15 days, and since the trial operation in 2019, the cumulative service has reached nearly 700 China-Europe trains.
In recent years, the meteorological department has extended from optimizing service supply to meeting application demand, actively building an open, integrated and shared meteorological service ecosystem, and extending its service tentacles to express delivery, takeaway, tourism, insurance and other fields.
On March 2, Sun Haoxi, a courier at Hunan SF Express, received a "cloudy to light rain" text message specially sent by the meteorological department and prepared rain gear in time. The early warning arrives at the "end delivery" link, so that practitioners feel the meticulous meteorological care.
Weather is very critical for the express delivery industry, in the event of severe weather, there will be a decline in the delivery rate, an increase in the rate of damage to goods, an increase in the risk of car accidents, and a delay in delivery time. "But with targeted weather warning services, we can take measures in advance." Huang Ming, manager of a branch of SF Express Changsha, said.
The meteorological department and the postal industry opened up information docking channels, through the "epidemic express" mini program, so that meteorological early warning information accurately reached more than 1.5 million express delivery employees across the country, not only allowing the courier brother to adjust the distribution plan before the arrival of disastrous weather, but also facilitate management personnel to improve operational efficiency.
Not only that, accurate and timely weather information can make the subsidies of takeaway delivery personnel and express train drivers adjust accordingly, traffic navigation avoids dangerous road sections, airlines push personalized services for members, and the high requirements of the homestay industry for meteorological disaster defense insurance are met... Behind this is the meteorological department's goal of enhancing the "sense of gain" of various industries and constantly strengthening its own hard power. In the future, the meteorological department will continue to deepen the integration of early warning data with data and information such as regions, industries, and disaster situations, so that the early warning can be issued more accurately and in place.
